SHOW US YA WORKBENCHES!

Recommended Posts

I put together a new bench for the new garage and workshop. Too much time wasted in the past with a small workbench with not enough storage space or work space. This one is a 2.8m section of Dexion pallet racking with three shelves, mounted to heavy duty castors so it can be wheeled around. Eight outlet power board provides power for everything and can be plugged into whichever wall (or ceiling) outlet is closest. Three separate spaces on the work surface dedicated to soldering and PCB work, mechanical disassembly, and research (for viewing schematics, manuals, etc). Currently got my PC on the bench in the research section but will probably replace this with a flatscreen and a mini PC when I have the time. Still some changes to make to it but I'm happy with how it's worked out so far. You can mount a whole playfield rotisserie on it if need be.

Product is called Rustoleum Rock Solid floor coating. Similar to an epoxy but slightly different composition. Looks nice but definitely not "rock solid" like it says on the box. It was a lot of prep and effort to apply. Not sure if I'd do it again.

My little spot.  It's all I've ever needed.  I built a frame/stud wall in part of my garage, plaster boarded it and put up a peg board. The workbench I made some 10 years ago from oak.  It moves house when I do.

A few years back I visited a friend in LA, he gave me a giant back of tokens and spare part from his amazing arcade machine.

My work bench I'm using at the moment is a footstool I kid you not. Can't really stand for to long ATM so footstool it is. My proper workbench in the garage is a injected old approach lane 2400 X 1100 X 80mm thick from a bowling center. Approach is the part you walk on to get to the part of the lane you bowl on. Injected with resin so it if very hard and heavy. Took four guys to lift the top out of the ute and place it on the legs. Sits on 50 X 50 steel tubular legs bolted to the floor slab and the bench. Back of the bench is bolted to the house wall. Not exactly mobile but it doesn't move when using the vice for bending steel.

I would say I win the heaviest workbench comp if there is such a title.

I recognise that rocket. Is this the machine thats made from oak and all sorts and took years to build?

This is made with a mixture of recycled hardwood for the top and new pine for the legs. I have added a vice at one end since.

You use them to push your work against, clamp to. They are called bench dogs. You can use different shapes for different purposes. That bench is what a proper wood workers bench who likely prefers a good hand tool looks like.

Ok, I built mine over the weekend. Tried my hand at routing. You can see I don't know much by the big divets in some of the pieces 😄. Figured it all out by the last cut. She's plenty solid 🙂 A picture of the 'plans'. you guys know what it's like, it mostly exists in our heads until we start cutting.
