Wonder if someone can advise what this bracket is for?

It is in the base of the head box and there should be one on each side, but I only have one.

I just want to know if its important and can I get away with just having one?

These are pics from another data east head box where I have circled the brackets, they don't seem to be used?

They look like earth bonding points for earth strapping into the main body - to tie it all together, but that is me just guessing

Correct. They are used to bond the earth to the DMD assembly at the speakers. 🙂 you could get away with a single I reckon provided you cross link all the earth points on the DMD panel.

finished the bogging and sanding of the cabinet and have put down a rough undercoat to find any obvious bits that i've missed.

not too bad for a first go, hardly anything to fix. Wil have to start on the inside next.

The one that has the white wires connected near the bridge is an operator mod, the original plug should connect to the board.

Thanks for that,  that's probably why I couldn't identify it in the back box pictures.

Hopefully the other side of the plug is used on the playfield and if won't be an issue.

Update on this project, has been going very slowly. I have now managed to get all the parts that I believe are missing so its just a matter of putting it back together 😬

I had a lot of trouble getting the correct paint. It's a common color but normally only available in ink. After a few attempts I found a paint store that had replicated the color.

I painted to whole cabinet which is not really required for decals, but I though it might protect it a bit better.

I know a guy at the local sign factory, so he applied the decals for me. He mentioned that because the decals are almost 4 years old that they might lift on the edges, which is what they have done. I have applied some glue to the edges and that seems to be working.

Hopefully the updates will come a bit more regular from now on.

More progress.

After a bit of mucking around I got the ball launcher hardware all fitting together, I hadn't realised that it was broken but found a work around.

The front is almost all done now, still working on the right side decal join and the overall front decal is a little bit to high, too late now but still looks OK.

Have put in the main components, including a new speaker, I just have to work out the switches and flippers etc. I also have a few connections that I don't know where they go.

I can't bolt the transformer down yet as I can't get under the cabinet yet, will have to wait till I put the legs on. I have also started the tidy up the cabling as well

I also seem the have a PCB left over. It looks important as it has the TFTC v1.01 ROM chip on it, but bugged if I know where it goes?

Maybe a superseded board?

Update on this, I think it goes behind the DMD. This is a section of the pin that I haven't worked out as yet.

I have now been looking at the DMD connections, and it looks like I am missing a few things.

The biggest thing is the 14 pin ribbon cable CN1 that connects the DMD Display to the driver board (the one in the red box below). I took this image from a youtube clip.

I am also missing all the spacers that separate the PCBs from the heat shield.

Does anyone know where I can get these parts?

DE 14pin DMD cable http://www.actionpinball.com/parts.php?item=036-5260-00 - Action lists this for TFTC and states that 036-5260-00 replaces the obsolete Data East/Sega # 602-5005-14. Although Marco lists these to parts numbers as separate products https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/602-5005-14 and https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/036-5260-00 (the connectors seem slightly different but maybe both fit??)

You can trim down any ribbon cable to suit. A shape pen knife is idea for this job. Not as good as a proper, made for the job cable but it certainly works and who hasn't got an old PC sitting around somewhere with a couple of ribbons in it. If you want it a specific length, you lever the connector apart and locate it on the cable where you want, line it up and re-clamp it back on the ribbon and cut the ribbon to size with sissors. Just make sure you don't invert a connector.

You can buy brand new ribbon cable and connectors if you want it all new. I think there is actually a proper tool for putting the connectors on but I've never used one myself preferring to line it up on the vice and a mild hit with a hammer. Others prefer to clamp the connectors on using a vice but the hammer has never failed me.😄

It's a quick, easy job to do making your own ribbon cables and pretty hard to stuff up. Just take the time to line everything up but even this you will find indents in the connector halfs that match the ribbon cable making it near impossible to get it wrong unless your pretty pissed I guess.

Pick a 14pin cable from this lot:

https://www.pinballspareparts.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=ribbon

Cheapest one you can find, if it's too long cable tie it.

The lower cabinet is now complete, added the flipper buttons, glass runners and new rails from @Railways, Thank you  😀

I also decided not to put the doubled sided tape under the rails, it is only for home use and it seemed sturdy enough without it.

Things are coming along nicely, next step is to put on the legs, connect the head and work out the head hinges.

btw, just wondering if anyone noticed that I painted the three bolts on the side to blend in, I thought it looked better than the black.

Just finished a little side project, since I couldn't find the missing cabinet plastic and I didn't want to spend $80 buying one, I made my own and it doesn't looked too bad.

I think the original plastic had the clear section cut out, not sure if I need to do that, will have to check once the playfield goes in to see if it touches. I think it's only there to hide to head locked down mech?

Small update. I have found a few issues with the PCBs and since I have no idea of the history and condition of the boards I have sent them off the Ken to check them out. Ken's also putting in the lithium battery and upgrading the game roms to the latest version.
