MGLXLVIII - Game 9 ~ Tapper (closes 8-Aug)

Recommended Posts

Oh cool, that the one in Bury? A mate I used to play arcades with contacted me on FB just last year (hadn't heard from him in 30yrs) & told me about it as he got back into arcade again there PAZ is his Initials - top Bubble Bobble / GnG player + others.

Yes thats the one. Currently i am in 4 days per week. Not sure whether or not i have chatted to him though. I am nearly always on the floor 3 main retro floor if he wants to find me and have a chat.

I finally saw the Tapper glitch screen yesterday which i was very happy about. First time i have seen it in my own game. Its a bit random on whether it happens or not on rolling the machine. If anyone wants to see it look on Lauren Featherstones TG video it appears when she rolls it for 14 mil plus theres another time it appears in her video too.

Here are some tips based on my experience covering both basic beginner strategies and slightly more advanced ones.

1) First priority get the empty glasses that is what trips players up the most including me at times. If you have to temporarily stop serving for a few seconds to get the glasses back under control so be it. Keep them under control at all times otherwise they will fall off the end.

2) Throw everyone out as fast as you can. Tapper has an invisible timer which controls the speed of the punters and increases them if you are taking too long. Get everyone out before that timer kicks in and starts to speed them up. Dont stall in order to try to get more points out of a level as you can get overrun quickly and without much warning as the initial small speed increase which is like a 'get a move on warning' isnt always obvious and then then you see them suddenly get to the stage where they become a lot faster when its inevitable you will be overrun. Yes its tempting to try to find where the line is between how many points you can squeeze out of a level and still complete it and try to push those boundries while still trying to avoid getting overrun I used to do that myself. Its not worth the effort of trying to figure out when is best to stop pressing on a level and then switching to clearing it. Keep it simple just kick everyone out and move on the the next level.

3) Tips are worth 1500 points for a reason which is to slow you down so you get overrun. Early levels you can usually get away with grabbing one early on if you want to but after that just focus on throwing everyone out. Personally i dont bother getting them. After the first rockstar level dont bother getting tips unless you know you are about to get overrun anyway in which case grab them as deathpoints.

4) The biggest jump in difficulty between levels in the entire game in my opinion is between the 3rd and 4th rockstar bars after that it goes up a lot more smoothly. I think its somewhere in the 3rd loop it levels out. If you can break through that 4th rockstar bar 'brick wall' consistantly then you are on your way to getting good scores.

5) They dont usually respawn quite as fast with one punter at an individual bar compared to if its empty.

6) From the second loop you will need to deal with punters drinking at slightly different speeds. Its the slow ones that are a real pain. Keep in mind who the slow ones are and try to give them priority. As soon as they reappear throw them out again to avoid being stuck waiting for them to finish their pint near the end of the level. So many times i have been overrun as a result of waiting for a slow drinker to finish.

7) There will be times where you will need to time the serving of the beer so you serve it before the punter has finished their pint so it gets there after they have finished it. This is often the case near the end of levels later on especially after the difficulty has maxed out but it is still useful even as early as the 4th rockstar bar. Throwing it that extra second earlier rather than waiting until the punter has finished then serving it can be the difference between throwing everyone out and ending up getting overrun.

Here is a video of me playing at Arcade Club which was done as a livestream on their facebook page October last year. Only got 150k and got to level 17 but not bad considering it was live and i had to give advice and answer questions while playing.

Hope this helps

You're moving steadily up the scoreboard. Nice work on all the improvements!
