Tournaments back at GameRoom Essentials

Recommended Posts

It's been a long while since we held tournaments but they will be coming back very soon.

Our weekly pinball club is doing well with 12 to 16 players each week with a 90 or 120 minute flip frenzy plus casual play to make up the 3 hours.

Pinball Club is being held every Wednesday from 7-10pm and looking to possibly extend the first Wednesday of each month for a group matchplay event from 5-10pm.

I have asked a number of players at the pinball club if a weeknight or weekend would suit better, and weeknight is a more common choice.

Just want to put it out to others in this forum, what times/days would be more suitable for you, and what current days/times are being used at other locations?

Will be submitting events to IFPA this week.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Planned dates are:

04/08/2021 - Group Matchplay

11/08/2021 - Flip Frenzy

18/08/2021 - Flip Frenzy

25/08/2021 - Flip Frenzy

01/09/2021 - Group Matchplay

08/09/2021 - Flip Frenzy

15/09/2021 - Flip Frenzy

22/09/2021 - Flip Frenzy

29/09/2021 - Flip Frenzy

06/10/2021 - Group Matchplay

13/10/2021 - Flip Frenzy

20/10/2021 - Flip Frenzy

27/10/2021 - Flip Frenzy

Each Group Matchplay will be a Tournament with doors opening at 5pm and tournament to start at 5:30pm. Expect to last 4 to 5 hours.

Each Flip Frenzy will be in a series (10 total) with 4 series per year. Doors open 7pm and frenzy from 8-10pm.

Danny.

Great job getting this going.

Would love to come along but have a regular commitment (indoor soccer) on a Wednesday.

any chance you could rotate the night?

my 2 cents worth: 5:30 is a little too early to kick off

cheers

George

We have tried to rotate nights for different events in the past but people always got the days confused. That's why we made the pinball club the one night every week. Might take a poll of our attenders and club members to find which days suit each.

Was unsure of the start time, as many could have just finished work. But even at 5:30pm start time, could have the finishing time at 10:30pm or even later. Will not be able to tell until we start running the comps.

Watching on twitch from home quarantine it looked like things went well apart from Xenon giving up the ghost early. Unfortunately it also confirmed to me that there's no point in me playing in these comps due to the finish time clashing with my work start time. Leaving early means playing for .05 of a point if that which isn't worth it. Barring another lockdown I can do October but that's it for me.

Good to have comps back though. Will be watching on with interest to see who will be SA number 1 by Christmas. It won't be me :D

Great fun - cheers again Danny

I had no idea we were streaming ?!

can we see it anywhere?

George

It looks like recording wasn't enabled... Whoever is in charge of the stream could enable recording for next time?

On Twitch under Settings / Stream / Store past broadcasts.

Only caveat where recording is not recommended is if you're playing loud music that could get a copyright strike on stream. Otherwise it's free recording for 14 days (can be extended with highlights).

Great to see SA having comps, we all wish we could be there right now... and good job for streaming it too. Catch you soon...

First attempt at streaming and driving blind.  I will make sure it is recording next time.

Also looking at streaming the pinball league each week too.

2 Rounds down and 8 rounds to go.

spacer.png

With 12 competitors in round 2, some new and some returned from round 1.

spacer.png

Lowest score is dropped over the 10 weeks. All others are added to the total.

Need to play at least 5 nights during the season to be eligible for IFPA points which should be worth quite a bit with so many games and so many players over the 10 weeks.

Round 3 starts at 7pm Wednesday 25th August.  Practice 7-8pm and flip frenzy 8-10pm.

See you then,

Danny.

Dion took out the Flip Frenzy last night for the second week in a row.  Well done!

spacer.png

Was another good turn out with 17 players, with 7 new to joining the league.

Next week is a Group Matchplay Tornament.

Doors open 5pm for practice, register by 5:55pm for start 6pm sharp.

Anyone arriving after this time can join in round 2 (expect 60 minutes per round).

Flip Frenzy round #4 last night.  Starting to see a pattern.

So the leader board for the pinball league is looking like this:

Another Flip Frenzy next week, Wednesday 7pm-8pm practice and 8pm-10pm Frenzy. And yes Celts will still be there.
