danny_galaga
I don't think they are going to NOT sell EVs because you need to tow a caravan. If that's what you need to do in 2031 you might have to use 4wd or something. Maybe a mitsubishi canter. Lots of people use those for towing

Autosteve
Cost me $4000 and was 7 years old... No it is not an El Cameno Candy. It's a Holden ute made in Australia in 1976. Two years later and a colour change, rebuilt 350 chev and driveline. That picture is in the near center of the country and that's what happens when you run out of fuel. Next stop Cober Pedy. Somewhere out Bumbfuck Australia, same trip. Two drivers, 10.000kms in two weeks. Sydney to Townsville across to Darwin, down to Port Augusta back up through Broken Hill and back to Connabarabran for a week of shooting and back down to Sydney. Might go a bit of the way to understand my aggressive stance regarding Australia's need or ability to go full EV. It may be great for the cities but I fear some of the places I've seen in my own country will simply never be seen again if it goes EV or nothing.

Unfortunately corporations only see money. They want to sell their products to China’s 1.3 billion population and China knows this so they restrict imports and force manufacturers to set up in China. Once that happens China floods the market and puts other companies that were hanging on out of business. Not the first time it’s happened, read about the tea wars.
danny_galaga
On the other hand, you also had the Opium Wars, which was pretty despicable behaviour by mostly the English. "I have to be in the Gold Coast in 24 hours from Sydney and I'm towing a 2 tonne trailer. I'm leaving in 1 hour". You know there isn't an EV on the market today no matter how much I pay that can do that job but believe it or not, I did that exact same trip towing a 2 tonne trailer around 20 years ago in a 2nd hand, $4000, then 7 year old Holden. Man, stop regurgitating things that aren't true! Here's a list of vehicles listed with their towing capacity: https://ev-database.org/#sort:path~type~order=.towweight~number~desc|range-slider-range:prev~next=0~1200|range-slider-acceleration:prev~next=2~23|range-slider-topspeed:prev~next=110~350|range-slider-battery:prev~next=10~200|range-slider-towweight:prev~next=0~2500|range-slider-fastcharge:prev~next=0~1500|paging:currentPage=0|paging:number=9 Assuming a Polestar 3, and a halving of the range capacity due to towing, here's a planned route with 4 stops, total of 1h 26 mins stopping. https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?plan_uuid=4991121e-4950-4007-8989-bc973889a18c So even if you assume your 7 year old Holden can get there without stopping to refuel (extra large petrol tank mod?), going in an EV would at worst take an hour and a half longer than your car. Think of all the great people you can meet all talking about there EVs and how good they are at every recharge point as we all have to stop at on our way up to Queensland. By the time we all get up there we'll all know each other so well, we'll be able to bunk up together. 6 stops to do 1000kms?. Haaa, no not for me...I hate vehicles that I can't get at least 600kms (highway) out of a tank. Edited November 25, 2022 by Autosteve
