New Homebrew Started (Get Smart )

Recommended Posts

So just an update on the Cone Of Silence Mech. Its now running off my Picaxe 40X Processor board and uses the opto switches to position the cone ort stop its travel. Still a long way to go on this. I swapped out the actuator that took 15 seconds to raise the cone. i now use a motor and worm drive to run it, so only 8 seconds to raise the cone now. Also if i want I can PWM the motor for soft start and stop if required.

There a tonne of coding to do just to make this whole mech do its allotted job ! (Simply amazing Mr Smart )

wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw==Covid Lockdown 6 Update. So code is now written , and the Cone Mechanism is now fully autonomous ! Yes its a self aware AI ! So when the Cone see's both the balls in pick up position ( that's does not sound quite right :lol ) The mech goes into action all by itself, as shown in the video.

Next step is to put this on the playfield and see how it reacts to having a balls flung into it....still does not sound right.

It's Flipp'in ! So I have mounted the Cone Of Silence mech, KAOS Ramp and guide metalwork to the playfield. Mounted and connected the power supply's to run it. 12VDC,24VDC and 50VDC ( Mr R Bridge) The lamps on Mr R Bridge are A: to let me know its juiced up and bitey  B: They discharge the capacitors , so if they are off, I know I can touch things and not get bit by a capacitor !

Let the test flipping begin....So I now know that I can hang the ball up at the top section of the Cone Assembly. No biggy to change the design a bit to fix that. I also found that the ball can stop on the side of the "seat" hole. This also will require a more of an egg cup sort of base for the ball to roll into. There are still a couple of spots that I think it can hang the ball up, but so far this hasn't happen with the test flips.

So now to fit some ramps off the KOAS ramp and to the rear of the Cone, then give it the big test with lifting magnets active !

So, so far looking promising...the one thing with the Get Smart Pinny Project, is if I cant get the Cone Of Silence working reliably, then I shall pull the pin on this Pin ! IMG_7844.thumb.JPG.59163add4ef3dbb9270ae57d844cfe9f.JPGIMG_7843.thumb.JPG.2810497dfb024e9564eb7ffb315dce19.JPGIMG_7841.thumb.JPG.c6dddfcb4b251df3b7b84b3a1398f48e.JPGIMG_7840.thumb.JPG.c2465c5b6b6e33a0a67fad68d660a33e.JPGIMG_7839.thumb.JPG.dd92ae20336b08a8ec447d844b6a308d.JPGIMG_7838.thumb.JPG.d855ca740dc4f279235d177da609501f.JPG65180778743__8B24210B-1745-4876-9F2C-977ABCC6A637.thumb.JPG.2fb58f7bfb275d7d4b49f10199b28f03.JPG

Looking good! The funniest thing about Get Smart was they did the same jokes every episode - Missed it by that much...

and the Cone of Silence never worked properly then, either! Great choice for a Home Brew project, can't wait to see it come together. Regards John

So, installed the test wire forms today.  Bending these little suckers into the right shape sure was a learning curve. But I wrestled them intro shape , then gave the Cone a full test with magnets. "Would You Believe " it worked a treat...

Also the KAOS ramp is working well , but then I noticed it was hitting the wire form where in mounts to the ramp. I then realised that was because I did not bend the tab where the ramp connects too ! I designed the bloody thing...So I should have know that it needed to be bent ! 😡 Version 2 will have that tab bent !

So once lockdown ends and I can have fellow Pinheads over, I will get them to test flip it and see what they think of the layout telemetry so far. It has been picked up that I have a 550mm radius from Apron shown. I did this because I measured the "sweet" spot that the professional pins tend to use to start their ramps from in a classic" fan" layout. So using a bit of research here 😁

I find that very hard to believe... 🙂

"Would you believe" a couple of more pic's showing the Cone at the Top Of Travel with its Balls ( Well Chief and Max) Then a pic showing blurry balls obeying the laws of gravity and then them in the wire forms....

Just spent 30 minutes or so reading this from start to finish.

Lots of great work, ideas and colaboration between mates.

That's just one thing I love about pinball. Great theme.

I may be in the age bracket where my balls dropped over 4 decades ago as well. But I certainly do NOT have your Talent?

Keep up the great work.

At some point I think you should invest in some new balls....
