Controls don't work on Atomiswave Cab with Pandora's Box 5s

Question

I am just trying to do some testing and messing around with a recently purchased Panadora's Box 5s clone board on my Atomiswave SD machine (with a 2 player 6 button Egret III panel) and I can't get any of the controls to work. I believe this has something to do with buttons 5 and 6 (and maybe 4) being wired differently to standard JAMMA but I could be wrong.

I would have thought disconnecting those buttons wires off my buttons 4-6 (both GND and button wires) for P1 and P2 would have gotten around it but doesn't seem to.

It's this board BTW if it helps https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1299-In-1-Jamma-Arcade-Classic-Game-Board-8G-RAM-VGA-Out-For-Pandoras-Box-5S/282881200977?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Any hints would be most appreciated.

Atomiswave uses 5 buttons right off the jamma interface, pins 22 to 26 are the buttons. Take a look here https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/images/9/9e/Atomiswave_manual.pdf

It's basically not a normal jamma pinout (as normal is only 3 buttons). I would look up the manual for the pandoras box to see what pinout it uses then compare it to the pinout in the link i posted. That will tell you whats wired differently.

Hi mate.

I have the same pandora 5s clone

One thing to note. Standard JAMMA uses Ground for both pins 27+28, both top and bottom side. You need to remove the Ground wires from Pin 27 top and bottom side, and then shift them over and resolder to Pin 28 on the JAMMA harness.

If you do not do this when using a Pandora, then Player 1, and Player 2 will have their 'Button 6' as permanently active. This causes all kinds of input drama, including no response from any other button on the control panel... trust me.

If you intend to use 6 buttons per side for Pandora, then you will need pin 27 top and bottom on the harness anyway, as this is the trigger wire for 'Button 6' for Player 1 (top) and Player 2 (bottom). If not using 6 buttons a side, pin 27 top and bottom need to be vacated/disconnected i.e. Not permanently grounded as mentioned above.

If you need a wiring guide, check google for Pandoras Box PDF

Found a later one here, but same deal

Thanks for that guys. All controls work (or at least 3 or 4 buttons per player plus all others) when tested with a 60-in-1.

I think I get it now so will try what mrjamma has suggested when I get a chance.

Cheers.

@Claude, rather than re-wiring the cabinet or changing JAMMA pins and/or rewiring buttons, just purchase an Elf/Pandora's Box to JAMMA adapter. That way you leave your cabinet stock and just use the adapter when using Pandora's Box/or other clone boards that use the CHAMMA standard for wiring and 6 buttons. You can purchase one from either Jamma Nation X (which I personally own) or Mike's Arcade:

JNX Atlas DLX - CPS1 and CPS2 $33.99 USD

http://www.jamma-nation-x.com/jammax/store.html

and a USD $17.95 CPS2 Kick harness (if you don't already have a kick harness) https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=CAPCOM-H2

or

Mike's Elf/Pandora's Box/Chamma to JAMMA adapter USD $19.95 + $12 CPS1 kick harness (if you don't already have a kick harness) or + $8 for CPS2 to CPS1 adapter (if you already have a CPS1 kick harness)

https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=JA-CHAMMA

They both work with either a CPS1 or CPS2 kick harness that Capcom Street Fighter original JAMMA boards use for button 4,5,6 on each player. So if you already own one of those boards and have a kick harness, it easy to plug it straight into the adapter. If not just purchase a kick harness as per above with one of the CHAMMA to JAMMA adapters and you are set.

Costs a few dollars extra, but in the long run is plug and play and you can leave the wiring in your cab stock.

Sounds like an even better idea as I was only just trying to test the Pandora and the Atomiswave cab was the easiest one for me to get to as others a packed away for the moment.

Cheers

So I will order some sort of adapter as I see myself buying a few more of these Pandora and similarly wired boards.

But in the mean time I decided to put electrical tape over pin 27 and 55 on the Pandora board and put temp jumper wires from 27 and 55 to 28 on the cabs JAMMA harness. And it works!

Thanks for all the good info guys.
