extendo
So what about these Sterns legs, rails etc Do they need to strip, sand blast prime then powder coat them ? - Con
john17a
You can powdercoat over old PC as long as it s in ok cond not flaking but not over "wet" paint as in the paint from a can old legs as long as surface rust is removed and no flaking of the existing finish Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
raysco
I had a set of four Bally legs sandblasted for $25 locally, then dropped them around the corner for powder coating in satin black for $55 last week. I was happy with that price :)
Glenn70
I have had quite a bit of it done in the last year and for 4 x legs, 2 x rails, LD bar, 2 x hinges and coin door & surround - I pay $90-$120, but anything up to $150 I guess is reasonable. Electro chrome plating is a lot more expensive. One very important thing to remember is that the coin door surround is generally not the same metal as the door, so make sure you inform the powder coaters as they may heat treat it to strip off the existing paint/rust. Look what happened to mine: I think the surround must be aluminium or similar as opposed to cast metal door.
JOKERPOKER
$300-350 Yours are often the 2 process for metallic hence the higher price i think Simon? That is correct, you must advise the powder coaters if you are going to do the entire coin door that the surround is aluminium. That looks really sad Glen! extendo
Ive been quoted $380 to strip, sandblast and prime then quoted $180 for powder coating. These are new stern legs, rails, lockbar, backbox. They say it needs to be primed etc due to the apperance of the stern metal materical. Powder coating onto it will not make them look smooth and may chip easy. Thought ? - Con

Some prep and go straight over. The powder coat builds up in the grain and they come out almost smooth. Some insist it needs to be removed? If it a 2 step process like i have seen on @KISS machines by the time the second process occurs it is a nice even coat. The same applies to 2pak painting them. I had mine done here in our paint shop and all i had to do was a light sand to remove the MR Sheen build up :lol and then the primer all but fills the grain and by the time the 4th coat of clear went on they were mirror finish and tough as nails. These were NOT rubbed back smooth Edited July 3, 2017 by JOKERPOKER
extendo
Nice thanks for the idea Scotty! I can paint em in 2 pac and prep the suckers for much cheaper and thats what I used to do back in the days. Im going to go down there where I have beem quoted these prices to shown them exactly whats going on. Otherwise if they are going to pre them might as well chrome the suckers so that I cam wear a glove when playing like you 😂 - Con
Glenn70
That looks really sad Glen! It was. They took the piss out of me too. How the hell was I meant to know it was aluminium? ha ha. I was just very lucky I was able to source another surround close by.
