So it begins - Evel Knievel resto

Recommended Posts

So I picked up a couple of projects a few years back and the one I most wanted to do was EK.

Came with a ton of chrome work (which has since been pinched an put into Playboy), as well as new playfield parts and new BG. Also a big bucket of parts.

The cab was a lost world cab already sanded back, glued and bogged. Stencils for EK included as well as the old cab Front and one Side to show where artwork goes.

Back box is original.

Also the extra parts from the lost world ended up included in the parts bucket so ton of extra coils and parts.

So it finally begins.

After ordering a new repro playfield and plastic set , it's time to do a playfield swap before anything else.

The old playfield had a dodgy overlay installed which looked crap.

First up is install all the lamp sockets, solid GI wire and T-socket hardware.

Here's the cab, just need to strip the last few parts off then it can be started. Might get my mate to start it.

First string of GI is done. Just need to wait for more sockets and wire to show up and then continue.

For now work calls.

The one installed on the photo above looks narrower than the 1/4" stuff that John's_arcade sells. Maybe not, but it looks it to me, that's why I asked.

Ah cheers I'm pinball resto noob but recall it being mentioned on the site

Yeah. It's not the braid wire that goes in the cab for earth. Is the GI string. Just as if you stripped the plastic off.

Where did you source the stuff you used on your new playfield Dedrok?

Not a lot got done, kept going for another sleep.

Ran some controlled lamps earth string. Installed rest of the new sockets.

Set up some flipper parts (still missing EOS and plunger stop brackets)

Removed all the bumper assys and installed some hardware from the spares.

Drop target bank ready to check.

  • 4 weeks later...

Not much time lately, but got started on the cab while my mate is undercoating the Studebaker.

Cab rebogged and first lot of undercoat done. Head box stripped, filled and ready for its undercoat.

Lowered the head box a bit. Stripped a layer of ply from underneath. Got rid of the splitting layer.

Cab and headbox are all primed and rubbed awaiting some white 2 pack. Spraying next weekend.

Still at the playfield swap, just a couple of strings and lamp sockets plus small t-nuts to go, then it's in to the rotisserie.
