Administrators Arcade King Posted January 20, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2016 Actually it was $450 ! I still remember seeing it in Toy World about 10 Years ago and I still kick myself for not getting it ! This is a great hobby to invest in, especially if you don't open the boxes and keep them in good shape. Here is some of my collection: but opening the boxes and playing with it is the whole point! I'll never understand some collectors.

Administrators Arcade King Posted January 20, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2016 Lol the mind boggles. There seems to be a real cardboard box fetish these days specially on things that were suppose to be played. They should just sell empty cardboard and plastic boxes for those people, at least that way they go to people who will actually build and use them as intended instead of hoarding never to see the light of day and inflating the price to preposterous levels of money for chunks of cardboard and plastic. Do people return boxes if they have a crease or scratch? I wonder what the store policy is on this and if its common? I'm just picturing the horrified look on a hardcore collectors face when somebody "breaks the seal" of a box, how dare you open it@! Sorry I just don't get it. Vadership
You could always buy two. Open one and keep one sealed. Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk That's what I do these days, but it does get expensive very quick when double, tripling up on sets. The good thing about it though, when the value of sets do go up, you can sell one set and that will pay for the 2 or 3 that you bought. As you can see in the pics, I have built allot, but I just don't have the room yet to build anymore. I actually have a heap that I've opened and built, but cant display it, due to no room. I want to get a massive custom glass cabinet made, so I can display the built ones without them getting dust on them. Becomes a real pain when it come to cleaning ! - - - Updated - - - Lol the mind boggles. There seems to be a real cardboard box fetish these days specially on things that were suppose to be played. sleazius
I'm one of the infidels who refuses to open lego. I got bitten bad when the UCS Imperial Shuttle came out, deliberated about buying it till it went off the shelves and now I regret it. I've got most of the UCS stuff since with the exception of the barbie fun house death star: Never been able to pull the trigger on the original UCS death star model 10143 or the original UCS millennium falcon 10179, far too rich for my blood. I've also got a few other models that appealed like tower bridge 10214 , the opera house 10234, the tumbler 76023, Orthanc 10237, haunted house 10228 and random not UCS starwars stuff. FYI there is another UCS Death Star coming out this year - 75159. My favourite model that I've got:

jason1
meccano was my thing as a kid, had some lego but got bored of it pretty quickly some of those big lego builds are pretty cool, but no way I would spend big money on $2 worth of plastic , they are getting some crazy prices and lego has a brilliant business model and it should be admired Edited January 20, 2016 by jason1
Womble
Oh I dunno, I'm not sure Lego is overpriced, just that the other kids toys out there nowadays are so cheaply made with every expense spared that we forget what quality looks like, or costs. Just compare real Lego with the proliferation of cheap knock off competitor "Lego" and the quality difference is light and day. Sure dropping $500 on a Lego set, versus a PS4 seems insane, but Sony will sell hundreds of millions of PS4s, while Lego may only sell a few tens of thousands of the crazy sets. Economies of scale bite hard, which I guess is why the really small Lego sets seem very cheap, but the prices go crazy quickly as you scale up. mark68
I'm not a LEGO collector, but I do still have my LEGO from when I was a kid. Not all of it is in good condition. Some broken, some coloured in with artline. I played with it a lot. I had pretty much all of the small Classic Space LEGO sets, and these two larger ones. The Technical sets were my favourites when they came out. http://files-as.myalbum.io/photo/360/c9/9g/c99g4Q2VwM2K.jpg http://files-as.myalbum.io/photo/360/9g/pC/9gpCDT2sgzyt.jpg http://files-as.myalbum.io/photo/360/7u/so/7usoeGtLTTUS.jpg http://files-as.myalbum.io/photo/360/1H/Mr/1HMrHUm86jf5.jpg

My brother had this when we were kids and still has it to this day. The bugger wouldn't let me play with it back then and I always wanted one. Well about 2 years ago I found one that was complete and quite cheap, so I grabbed it ! It took 27 years to get from when my brother first got his, but I got it :rolleyes

taito
I've enjoyed reading this thread and I couldn't help chuck my lego bit in the pot. I was raised on lego. lego was at every turn in my childhood. Seams rellos would say, "Oh, we've got some old lego, why don't your kids have them?" But the special purchase one year was the car with the motor, gears, pistons, rack n pinion steering, etc 8860. My uncle had it and I was so lucky to get it for Christmas. I failed at building the car fully. But that didn't stop me mucking around with all the cool Technic bits. I think that was the strategy back then, get the kit with the most bits, so you could create! Back in the early 80's lego was a bit pricey, but a purchase could always be justified. "It's good for their minds, keeps them busy for hours, it's educational" It goes on. I think the favourite thing I built was a three or four stage negative geared gear box so my car could climb any terrain, either that or flip over from the gradient being too high. I thought that was way cool because by itself you could stop the little motor in your fingers, but geared down it was quite strong. Moving on to 2000, we had boutique hobby store down the road that only seamed to open on occasions. This was super nerdy stuff. I spotted the MelFalc in the window and dreamed of owning it. I spotted the price and thought, that's crazy biscuits! Yeah it was 400+ Cheap by what's on ebay. Sigh. Oh, guess what my kids got for Christmas? Lego! Even though the kits today are a bit simple, they're still cool. Yeah Mr and Mrs Lego are well positioned in the toy market. The clip that appears after the yellow and black air car above is awesome. danny_galaga
Just like most things I do nowadays, it's not 'still doing it', but 'just started doing it'! Never had Lego as a kid. Also, I like Snake from the Simpsons. So my girlfriend put two and two together and bought me the Simpsons Kwik-e Mart for christmas (",)
