Retro room - work in progress

Recommended Posts

Moved into the house a few months ago and set the basic framework out for the retro room upstairs.

Using a 68cm LG CRT, accepts composite, s-video and component so component-out Neo Geo games look particularly nice.

The next step is to either put a futon up there for comfortable seating, or move the downstairs lounge suite upstairs and replace what I've got downstairs - TBC.

After that I want to look at getting the cabinetry and cabling in place where I can have pretty much every console plugged in and hooked up and ready to go at a moment's notice. Right now I would need to set it up next to the TV and plug it all in. Not very efficient.

I took the time to drag every game out of the cabinet and see just what I've got across each platform. It's an uneven collection where some systems I don't have much for yet, others I've got boatloads.

Very nice collection a tonne of quality titles in there over all the consoles and spoilt with two 32xs :lol

Especially loving your mega cd titles some great and terrible games in that lot :D, is it modded for region free? I see us and pal titles mixed in that lot.

Amazing setup! Huge thumbs-up for Keio Flying Squadron on the Mega CD and Shining Force 3 PAL for the Saturn!!!

Can definitely understand wanting everything hooked up for insta-play, that's how I've set mine up... to a point! I'm using a Joytech video switcher which is supposed to have 7 devices hooked up simultaneously... but with some creative wiring, I have about 15 things hooks up to it, but still I'd love more!!

nice set up man. That selection of snes titles it perfect. Super castlevania 4 is my fave.

And hi five for Suikoden 1 and 2. Amazing RPGs. Love all the arcade sticks. Really gotta get myself a dreamcast one.

Thanks for sharing man!

Hey guys I want to upload some more photos. How do I clear out the photos I've already used? I've reached the 5mb limit and am stuck! :realmad:

Best way is to just register on photobucket and then copy and paste the web links.

Good advice thanks guys.

Last bits of my collection so far (not including PS3, 360 and PC stuff since it isn't retro) including my personal favourite Mega CD game and the pride and joy of everything in my house, the Neo Geo gear -

Mega CD is at the same time the best and worst console ever. Interspersed between so much crud are some real gems. For some reason I have these emotional attachments to the MCD versions of games like Ecco, Flashback, NBA Jam, Final Fight etc.

Not modded for region-free, no. How do I go about doing that with a MCD2 unit?

Dying to get my hands on a boxed MCD1........

Looks amazing! Love how the shelf with the AES carts is bending out of shape - they are heavy bastards aren't they? :D

The weight is satisfying. I know if someone tries to break and enter I can KO them over the head with an AES game and it'll still work. I know the economical side of collecting MVS titles, but there's something about beefing up a collection with AES games that really blows my skirt up. KOF97 is now part of the family and might I add looks pretty damn good in there.

Do you have any pics of what you've done? Would love to see and get some ideas.....

Hey Tim! I've got Suikoden 3 and 4 on PS2 but...they're poor cousins compared to the first 2. Need to get a hold of 5, it's definitely better than 3 and 4 IMO.

  • 4 weeks later...

I've made some pretty big additions to the games room today courtesy of a pile of Saturn and Mega Drive games.

The whole lot + courier from QLD set me back over $1600. Worth it for some of the big hitters in there.

Also added a modified Capcom TE stick that works on Neo Geo, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC, PS2 and PS3. Very happy.

Definitely not Ebay otherwise I'd be declaring bankruptcy tomorrow. Private purchase through a friend in Brissy who had a boatload more Saturn games I intend on taking off his hands. Figure I'd start with the cream of the crop and go from there. Someone already beat me to his copy of Guardian Heroes so I didn't want to let the other big hitters (Panzer Saga, Burning Rangers, SF Collection, Dragon Force, Shinobi X) slip through my fingers.

Frank Sega was my first true love growing up. Some habits are hard to break!!

Hey chaps I need some advice. I spent some time this afternoon rejigging the console setup -

What I want to do in an ideal world is have them all hooked up to the TV at once. Can any of you recommend any top notch component/s-vid/composite switch boxes? I've got a Crest one that seems *ok* but I'm not really comfortable with how flaky it feels.

Also I put together a cabinet which I now call the Tower of Sega.
