What retro stuff did you add to your stash this week?

Recommended Posts

This thread is fantastic - I'm taking a break from shopping while I finish up some console mods (including a fix for an AA member's SC-3000H) and clear out the last of my duplicate gear, with a little bit of spring cleaning. Space is becoming an issue for my console hoarding so I'll be getting rid of a couple of things that I'm not too fussed about... once the soldering iron's cooled down of course!

Dropped in to my local cashies yesterday and had a laugh... Super Mario All Stars - SNES cart only with label half torn off $40 :lol

Although they did have a complete in box etc.. copy of Super Mario All Stars (25th Aniversary Edition) on the Wii for $45 so think I might go back and get that... Would there be any retailers still selling that new?

I picked up a gun and pedal set for nix when I bought a few items at a garage sale. She threw them in for me for free.

I already have a few items lined up for next week. Just got to collect them Sunday.

Certainly nothing like a boxed nintendo robot though.

How many of us would say they buy something console related every week?

It changes all the time, but usually I do buy at least one thing per week.

My retro collecting goes through phases where I go nuts for a few weeks/months and then I lose interest for a little bit and come to a complete halt. I stopped completely for around 6 months and started another hobby (RC helicopters) but have since contracted the retro bug once again.

At the moment I've slowed down for several different reasons, and when I pick up the pace again am thinking about concentrating on a specific area rather than trying to grab anything and everything.

All the young people getting into it who amass an instant collection within 3 weeks have driven up prices too, in a big way, so I'm hoping to wait it out and see if prices return to a normal and respectable level. I have high doubts of this happening though and even if it does, it's a race against the clock, as the more time that passes the rarer stuff becomes and inflation is only natural. Common sense has kicked in a little bit with me, and I can't justify spending big dosh on retro gear any more, there's just more important things in life. This is a big part of the reason I'm contemplating just sticking to one or two platforms. I've actually reached my main goal anyhow, which was to obtain all SEGA consoles required to play every platform of game.

I know exactly what you mean. I go through phases of different focuses. I will be buying console stuff for a while, then slowly fade in to arcade stuff, then over to pinball for a bit and back to consoles again.

Yeah I went apeshit last year, so I'm laying low at the moment, only picked up a handfull of games this year. (maybe a big handfull...lol) but yeah, mainly focusing on playing them as opposed to stacking more stuff on top of them.

It gets like that, which is a shame as I love playing the games.

As a kid I only ever had a handful of games for the consoles that I owned (C64 excluded as everyone used to swap copied disks). This led to me playing the crap out of the games that I did own though, which was good, and it also motivated me to sit down and work at completing every game at least once. Back then there was just something special about completing a game and seeing the ending.

Plus back then we had a lot more time as well. Spending hour after hour playing games was commonplace. Nowadays getting the time to spend even 2 hours playing is difficult.

Checking out gumtree today and in Sydney a guy sold an N64 with 9 games for $30. I missed that one buy about an hour. :x
