New X68000 additions.

Hard to find a grey keyboard in good nick especially with keys and stands in tact.

Something about the grey plastic just doesn't hold up like black but in this case very happy.

And a funky mouse.

The balls in these haven't held up real well.

And a pic inside just because. Interesting how it uses pots over optos.

I'm done with x68000 stuff for now.

Was going say, did you sell a couple of Pinnies or some Cave/Toaplan Shooters to fund the X68000 adventures? 😅

And pickup of my own - It's retro, even if it's not electronic. Grabbed it with a bunch of stickers I ordered for the kids off that T*MU app (won't name it lest I attract the spam bots). Think it's ripping off these designs, but based on this being a fun build and decent quality, pretty sure I'll go back to order the Famicom kit they have and maybe the Boombox or typewriter.

(Heck, it even has a CRT neck, chassis and Mac Mainboard inside it!)

No not at all, just took a gamble on "Junk machines" and learning the hard way.

1. Don't buy from Ebay, you'll pay way more than buying directly from Japan.

2. Most games need at least 2MB of ram so if you buy a OG model you'll need a 1mb ram expansion to get to 2mb. You also need the 2mb of base ram so you can upgrade the ram further (max 12mb). This is why I took a punt on the Expert HD which has 2MB on board and probably the machine I would recommended to others. It was also the first machine to use a lithium coin battery. Not long after I did manage to get my hands on a 1MB upgrade for one of my OG's.

3. I opted to replace the PSU's rather than try to fix the originals, this is essential for any "Junk" x68000 you want to attempt to repair. Using the ATX picos I was able to keep the machines looking original but it's the more expensive route. Pico PSU is about $80 + AC to DC 12v psu around $60 then the board to mount all this on + a few other components is $10 and thats not including postage.

4. Postage is another factor. Being a heavy item I paid around $160. Keyboards etc were much cheaper to ship.

5. None of the machines I bought came with Keyboards or a Mouse so you'll need to build yourself a cheap PC USB to x68000 adapter which I intially did or wait for a good Keyboard and mouse to come up.

So in a nut shell I got 3 working machines with a bit of work, cheapest was the second Grey OG for $270 + Postage, most expensive was the first from Ebay.

I don't think they are that outrageous in pricing as long as you are prepared to get your hands dirty and do some repairs.  Hell compared to PC-88 and 98 I think x68000's are far cheaper.

I wonder if any other AA's have a x68000. I think I'll put one of mine up for sale/trade at some point.

Ahhh, I've been tempted to try that gamble but it's always intimidating given the challenges of troubleshooting a system you have virtually zero experience with (Playing stuff on the MiSTer absolutely does not count). Maybe one day when I've caught up on all my other projects and moved on the stuff I don't need!

Just added this little beauty to my collection. It's a Tseng Labs ET4000AX VGA/EGA/CGA Graphics card. I do have one of these already but lacks the 9 Pin D CGA/EGA header.

The dipswitch to the left set on to enabled CGA/EGA.

Why you ask?

So I can play all the classic 16 colour 320x200 EGA games on this glorious Tandy CM-11 CGA monitor using my 386 DX-40.

I do have a NEC V20 running at 10 mhz with a nice EGA/CGA card I usually use with this monitor but it's a little slow for the Sierra SCI games.

So much better looking than on a VGA or LCD monitor.

Hot. I thinned out a lot of my older ISA cards a while back, but have what I think is a single EGA/CGA card, as well as this rather nice ET4000 twin head card:

Sadly there's some damaged traces on the back I haven't gotten around to patching up, so the second output doesn't work on this one.

Aye, guessing they took the approach of jamming two graphics cards into one to get dual screen - something you can see when it's hooked up to two screens (This was the spare worker I sold before realising this one was damaged)

  • 2 months later...

Local markets were on today which is rare atm down here. Unfortunately 2 on same time so had to take a punt which ones to go first.

Sadly don't have a landline anymore with the NBN but this was pretty cool for the shelf.

Then went to the other market but it was just vintage car parts lol

This was a gift from a mate at PAX. Can now discover the amazing awfulness of the CD-i library. I mean, check out those amazing controllers!

Oh it definitely works, as we had it running with a fairly horrible on-rails shooter at PAX for the first day. Swapped it out for an Intellivision for the rest of the weekend after no one really played it, and had a lady come up and unironically ask where it went as she was really excited to come back to play it 😅

I think I have the TV too somewhere here now I think about it.

That gets a double-wow. Museum worthy! Must have felt like the most modern thing ever at the time.

Is that little TV Black and White?

I can see it's not a Trinitron and there's no mention of colour on it.

I like how old TVs proudly declared that they were 'solid state' - except for the big tube in the front of course...

Nice find, regards John

Hi yeah it is black and white

Was hoping colour but for 1976 didn't think would be. Hooked up my old pvr that I use for crt fun. Just needs some adjustments on size.
