ANT68
Gents ,am I seeing the same pins rolling over on ebay nearly each week with no sales ,and the prices being reduced slowly ? Good titles seem to sell while slower title resurface.:unsure IMO there's some good price pins out there , And the pins that do sell are real good value.. I hope the Pin market doesn't crash as they predict economy will . Should the brakes be applied to some imports ,to cater for the market slump.?? or will importers take this in to account ??once profit become slower,or will AA members get some great buys .:lol:lol (Please ,I stand to be corrected if my observation is incorrect )

LOTR4U
If the economy crashes so will pin prices or better yet they won't sell. Simple as that. I can't believe there are as many containers coming in as people would think. How can someone sell 100s of machines over a few months with barely any listed on ebay :unsure

Some are sold off the showroom floor. My last five machines were bought straight out of the container. But there are 100's more coming in, so it will be interesting :)

Maybe 3 - 4 pages are ACTUALLY pinballs.. It is less than that now. But - As people feel the "credit crunch", the first thing to go are the luxury items. Pinballs/Arcades/Toys etc.. There could be MORE Pinballs on eBay - Decreasing the prices.. But where are the buyers ?? Generally speaking - If you a Pinball Collector / Hobbyist - You are "cashed up".. This is an EXPENSIVE Hobby.. So as the prices drop, the Hobbyists snap up any bargains on eBay...
Fish Tales
maybe sell now at a decent price, and accumulate later when buying is good :unsure

pinball-fixer
If the economy crashes so will pin prices or better yet they won't sell. Simple as that. I can't believe there are as many containers coming in as people would think. How can someone sell 100s of machines over a few months with barely any listed on ebay :unsure From what I've seen over the years, even with a bad economy pinball/amusement sales don't drop off considerably. I think it's because people still want their entertainment, and if they can make a one-off purchase to have that entertainment/stress relief at home vs going out to a pub (for example) every weekend, then that's what they will do. If they can spend say $3500 on a decent pinball to have for as long as they want and not go out and piss the money up against the wall during hard times, then they are better off and can still have their mates over and enjoy playing the machine. I also think that people are much more wary of eBay these days. Most people who just want a pinball for home seem to be going to the dealers and buying a reconditioned pinball knowing that they will have the backup service if anything does go wrong. They can also play each game available and talk to the sales person about them, so they feel more confident about buying one. but sometimes its hard to find games in prestine condition. you get the beatup shit alot on ebay. :unsure It's hard to get a good price on eBay for a good pinball. Most people aren't prepared to spend more than say $2500 on a machine sight unseen. They would rather go and see/play the actual machine, if they are to spend more than that. AskJacob
we talk about this shit all the time, and nothing much changes really ;) Isn't that one of the core rules of being an AA member? :badgrin Entertainment $$$ always is strong in a bad economic time. People like to justify purchases, and to divert their attention from the road wreck "outside"... But they may shift how the $$$ are spent - e.g. justifying the big plasma over going to the movies, buying a pin over going to the pub 2 nights a week. I'm just glad my entertainment dollars (if I get any) is spent on a hobby based on sharing and mateship (and sometimes competitiveness ;) ). Ebay is a horrible indicator of prices for machines - considering how many get "passed in" or removed from listings as they are sold outside ebay. Really difficult to tell what is real there these days... Especially now ebay seems to have the attitude that bids don't necessarily form a binding contract to either party... heh... "Melbourne Australia, the new home for Real Pinball" <- make it happen! cheers Jacob
LOTR4U
A mate here at work, works in a hobby shop and commented at how bad things have dropped of. and there purchases of $10 - $500+ . I dunno anything over $1K is hard to justify in tough times. Let alone 2K , 3K or 4K + People tend to turn to alcohol/sex more in hard economic times. People withdraw to the security of their homes and find ways to save money and enjoy themselves at home. They still buy stuff, just more selective on what they do buy. Fish Tales
assume he is saying even the small ticket sales have dropped off I was retrenched in 90's, and it was hard pill to swollow.
IMPURE
I think he means the decrease in sales of a smaller amount being 10 to 500 dollar range, i see it happening at a mates shop too and have to wonder when or how long it will take to hit the bigger ticket items
longreach
Time will of course tell. I would personally think that things will slow down a bit on the pinball front, but then there will always be people, like myself, who are pretty much unaffected by all the stuff thats going on. If anything I am better off with the interest rates dropping, I have sold my investment house, debt is low, repayments are low...so I went out and bought another pinball machine...ok 2 pinball machines. Things may well slow down but they won't stop and they will always pick up again.
LOTR4U
assume he is saying even the small ticket sales have dropped off I was retrenched in 90's, and it was hard pill to swollow. correct, didn't think my broken engrish was that bad. I think he means the decrease in sales of a smaller amount being 10 to 500 dollar range, i see it happening at a mates shop too and have to wonder when or how long it will take to hit the bigger ticket items correct. 10 points for you! Sorry Ryan, but the end of your first sentence confused me a little as I didn't understand what you were trying to say? :unsure Cheers, Dan I thought it was pretty clear. here I will break it up for you. a mate, works in a hoppy shop (luxury items) notices a big drop in sales purchases are varied in a hobby shop, lowend $ to highend $. Moral to the story - All luxury style items seem to be affected. (side note, a mate of mine also works selling SPA's and has said there in the shit badly) not too hard to understand. Ric
if/when the shit really hits the fan people are going to hang onto their cash more closely. of course some people are going to have a bit spare to dip into hobbies etc the commercial sellers will continue to operate and may need to adjust prices however this will be based on their own circumstances. the private sellers will most likely only be getting rid of stuff to downsize or to get quick cash because of the economic situation. This is the area where there will be greater price fluctation as demand is going to be reduced however 2nd tier pins (in terms of collectability, eg Future Spa and titles that aren't bad players but not up there with Adams Family) may begin to hit the market at lower prices to tempt the buyers that are out there. most people will try to hold onto games if they can becuase prices will begin to fall
