TPG email hosting.

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had an email from TPG saying that as of  19th september they will stop providing email services.

They are asking to migrate my email address to The Messaging Company if I want to keep my existing TPG address.

I've logged onto TPG and the same info appears there as well.

Just sometimes things smell iffy so just don't step in it.

Anyone else with TPG had this message? before I try a phone call.

Yep. TPG owns iinet. I've done a search and it's legit.

Pretty piss poor excuse though. It will save them money with no benefit to us what so ever. I saw this coming which is why I've been migrating my email account over to Gmail.

I host my own email services to avoid this type of foolery. It's an option if you don't want to be at the mercy of a mail provider or ISP, as you can migrate your email from one ISP to another. It is a little painful to manage.

Anybody looking for a new ISP can read up at Whirlpool forums, plenty of info there. I think Tangerine are the current best service for dollar according to "various awards" :) they work ok for me and I'm a difficult customer.

I got an email from my parents about this, they and I are with Internode.  I didn't get the email and thought that just hosted email/web that they have was ending not the internode.on.net email address.  Lucky I saw this thread as my email would have stopped working!

Looks like I can transfer to The Messaging Company and I can keep using my internode.on.net address.  It states I can keep using that address as long as I'm an Internode customer if I move ISPs then they may revoke the right to that address.  I also have to pay for the service after September 2024.

Yep my email basically said TPG will  cover the T M C for a year and then basically you're on your own and that is only if you choose to migrate your current email before the 19th september.

@needlebat yes ouch now that I'm thinking of how many things have our TPG email address such as.......  almost everything.!!!.

I think it's time to find another IP entirely and see if they can migrate for me. Is that a doable thing??

That is of course that the next provider doesn't go down the same road in the future. It rings a parallel with all these Super Funds companies currently merging into giant conglomerates.

Unfortunately there is no central registry for email address changes. In a 12 month period though you would expect to get at least one email from each place you used it, so monitor the old, and migrate to the new. If you want to set up a domain and your own email give me a shout and I'll lend a hand. What are the fees for TMC? Might be cheaper?

Thats the catch. Unless I just skimmed these old eyes past it there was no mention of future fees which bothers me a bit.

Thanks for the offer and I may well do that but for the time being I'm just gathering info and options as I'm not that tech savvy. Give me a Mitsubishi gear box and I'll have it stripped and diagnosed licketty split. LOL.

  • 1 month later...

Last wednesday I had trouble accessing my TPG email until wednesday evening as it seems the migration has already started. I now get redirected to The Messaging Company (TMC) who the tells me my migration isn't quite there yet and to contact TPG. Here we go, around and around we go I'm thinking.

Still no input on future costs etc. Maybe it'll be based on how many customers that will permanently migrate to TMC and not go elsewhere or as suggested do their own hosting.
