Those guys are something else!

They're brilliant aren't they. I have to admit I found this group a few weeks ago knowing Mortal Kombat was Game 12. I listened to every one of their tracks and they are so talented and amazing at what they can do. It just goes to show though, that arcade video games are an essential part of life, and they inspire the most talented to do the most incredible things. Just like in the game.

I'll post 2 more of the best I could find just for fun ... they're terrific ... they sound exactly like the sound tracks ...

Is this the same as Game 3 with a different skin? 😆

Ok so fighting games haven’t aged well for me. For me it was also the last Arcade Surge and signal of its demise since pre 1985 and I blame it on home consoles just playing these games too well.
I had a Genesis at the time and my friend had an SNES. Genesis had the blood which was censored for the SNES if I recall. But the SNES one seemed to play better.

A word of warning with this game. Get your screenshot before the continue screen appears otherwise your score will disappear. The high score table only applies to 2 player games so you won't be able to enter your initials

Occasionally I can get double flawless against Johnny Cage if he is one of the earlier opponents which gives roughly 1 mill all up for that round.

I can't remember how I used to beat Goro.

Is this the only TG track for the MAME version? would have thought there would be way more scores.

Yes it is and yes I agree with you. I would have thought there are tons more. But this is the MAME track and there are higher scores on the Arcade track.

That's a brilliant score Derek, nice work!

Do you have any tales of the arcade to talk about on this game? I enjoyed the 1st MK movie as well.

Be careful everyone, every time you start to play a gaming session from scratch the difficulty level may go back to 3 - Medium.

Please change to 5 - Very hard every time.

THE GAME DOES NOT SAVE THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL ALWAYS. PLEASE CHECK BEFORE YOU PLAY.

I used to be able to 1CC it fairly easily but I'm guessing most of the machines I played it on had it set to normal difficulty.

An arcade MK tale from my Timezone days.

Some of you may remember when Mortal Kombat first came out and suddenly Timezone turned all the blood and fatalities off. Here's why it happened and how I would've been public enemy number 1 if the players had found out the full story.

MK was new and fairly popular at the time. We hadn't displayed the move lists on the machines but the game was performing fatalities on the players and the players were figuring out how to do the fatalities themselves. I'm guessing an irate parent saw a fatality and contacted the media.

Here's where I come in. I arrived at work at what we called Timezone 1 in Hindley Street about 3pm to have a few games before my 4pm start only to find a TV crew from the SA version of the ABC current affairs show The 7.30 Report. Supposedly they were there to do a story on the latest games and were focussing on MK. They wanted someone who could play all the way through the game. Management gave me a dollar coin and the instructions be careful what you say. I said very little if anything. At the time we had 3 MKs set up. 2 were uprights running what I think was rev 2 and a megascene cabinet running rev 3 which was a bit harder. They set up on the megascene and off I went.

My mistake happened almost immediately. Purely through force of habit I performed Sub Zero's spinal rip fatality giving them exactly what they were after. I ended up losing to Goro and offered to play again but had to start work. They then filmed the afternoon shift assistant manager playing through one of the rev 2 machines. It took him multiple credits to complete it and Kano did a fatality on him along the way.

The story went to air the next night and the shit hit the fan in spades. The machines were turned off until management decided what to do which ended up being turning off the blood and fatalities. A follow up story aired the following night where the SA state manager admitted that they had "caught us with our pants down so to speak."

Looking back I'm surprised I kept my job. I'm thinking that the only thing that saved me was Kano ripping out the assistant manager's heart meaning they would've got what they wanted anyway. MK takings took a hit as other locations could keep the blood on so the players played in those locations instead of the sanitized version of the game we were offering. By the time MK2 came out the fuss had died down and we ran the game with full blood and fatalities without incident.

I don't know if the story is out there on YouTube or anywhere else. I've never looked to be honest. All you saw of me during my "first TV appearence" was my hand inserting the coin and a close up of my eyes while I was playing. According to my Mum I looked like I was posessed or something. Probably better that way. Nobody knew it was me.  😎

I remember when they got MK2 at the Melrose Park Timezone. There were some younger kids standing around watching it but seemingly unimpressed. One of them says "I'm just going to wait for the SNES version" I said that the SNES version was inferior compared to the arcade version, but I don't think they cared. Back then the MK game cartridges for SNES or Megadrive on launch were retailing at $119 which is a lot to pay for a game even by today's money. I also remember at one point the store manager Della telling the young kids they weren't allowed to play the game anyway because there was supposed to be some age limit or something.

I have a 9 news story somewhere on my computer about MK and the other games from the era such as Night Trap on Sega CD which has a FMV of a woman being captured by aliens and having some massive drill bit device attached around her neck, it doesn't actually show any gore but it was enough to alarm the general public especially since it was mostly young kids playing these games. All of sudden violent video games were the new evil thing, taking over from heavy metal music that had supposed subliminal messages that were heard if you played the LP in reverse.

Little cheesy tale to add to the thread...  Must've been 95/96 at the time, young dumb ass me around 9 or 10 at the time, standing behind a dude and his girlfriend trying to impress her with his skills at Tea Tree Plaza Timezone .

Turns around offers to pay for the fight.... got the win 2 outta 3 AND somehow instinctively pulled Scorpion's fatality off all from only gameboy and master system experience lol.

Gave me an odd disgruntled look and left, pretty sure after I had a couple more rounds from my pocket money and got my ass handed to me from the AI.  Proud moment.
