Gottlieb Grande Domino 1968

Recommended Posts

up next in the queue is a very rare, gottlieb made for italy only grande domino from 1968.

interesting that gottlieb made the following:

domino (replay version): 2650
playmates (aab version): 500
grande domino (italian export): 4000

amazing that gottlieb made more of this game than the total of the credit version and the aab version for the entire world.

some background: domino was the 2nd pinball i owned way back in 1978 - actually owned it twice and have always regretted letting it go.

so the opportunity arose to buy the italian version a few weeks ago, pick it up next saturday.

will upload the only 2 photos i have after this.

since then have picked up the last set of pinball rescue plastics, decals for the roto targets and having a reproduction backglass made right now in italy.

the things you do..

will be another ground up restoration.

Never seen a few things on this machine before such as using a normal contact switch to activate a major feature.......The first picture on both sides of the playfield level with the green pop bumper- 50 points and spin roto is what I'm seeing and it appears to be just a normal contact switch.

Interestingly, the US "replay" machine has the spin roto in the holes rather than these contacts.....

Got some questions hoping you may know the answers to.

IPdb states......Outhole can kick ball back into play between the flippers. (Grande Domino) however not a mention of this on Domino or Playmates.

Is that true as I see the machine has a normal launch track up the right side?.

And if it does, what does that mech look like to get the outhole to kick in both directions?

Gottlieb roto target mechs.....do they all have the same number of targets?

So 6 top lanes on a 5 ball game with stuff all chance of getting it back to the top....

Someone is taking the piss.....surely....

Looks like you can spot the top lanes using the roto targets and on the Grande Domino and the Playmates looks like you can also spot them with the lower 6 targets?

sooooo did an 11 hour in total road trip for this..

needs heap of work, will be getting the full ground up resto. will pull apart tomorrow.

will need to use a spare wedgehead cab have here. after the tare down will start on the other cab. it was once a gottlieb target pool.

so the photos tell the story, strange (as most of the italian add a ball games this one has some hacks). it was had a circa 1965 williams credit unit assembly installed).

have respro plastics and backglass which is being made in italy.

have this week off work so will chip away each day.

love the home paint job on the cabinet.

last photo..there were a handful of gottlieb pinballs that were made with the ball launch between the flippers. from memory there were only 8 or so gtb pins from around 68 and 69 with this feature.

so once you win a free ball during play the gate opens and diverts the ball to a plunger that pushes the ball up the playfield. it's a really cool feature.

don't actually know how to update this.

wow, what a massive project this will be.

it's all pulled apart, bagged up. donar cab just needs a quick hit with the orbital sander on 80 then 120 slow to finish.

fair few hacks may my stomach churn as it was being pulled apart

Never saw this written on these plates till around Pinball Pool at Goddards.

Irony is this Italian machine has it written in English as well.

Mondial were the Gottlieb distributor for europe

pulled out the spare cab, got 80g sandpaper. will have to be out there for hours.

don't want to piss off the neighbours too much.. so will get some 40g. also fingers crossed the old ryobi gets just one last cab in before she dies.
