Identifying Williams Black Knight fuses (4x fuse holder + under playfield)

cejay

Question

Hi all,

Need some help identifying what fuses to use in the 4x fuse holder in the backbox near the power supply (not on PCB) and also the single holder under the playfield. I've looked through manual + schematics and can't see any reference to them.. I'm probably missing something.

There’s also one in the lightboard/scoreboard that I missed.

I think I had 5A fuses in there but I'm not convinced they are the correct rating given all the hacks I've seen.

Thanks

Read from post 59 on. It may explain what is done....

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/vids-guide-to-bulletproofing-williams-system-6/page/2#post-945742

If this is not the case, a lot of people did split the backbox GI into two circuits for ease of fault finding.

Is your power supply a proper system 7 board?. Maybe it is using an earlier system power supply board and these fuses are those not found on such boards and therefore added under the board?.

Under playfield fuses may be inline fuses for magna save coils. A Williams amendment come from the factory recommending this mod be done.

Wow that pinside post is full-on. Thanks!

I’m not sure if I have the correct power supply board for Black Knight, it doesn’t match up with the manual in terms of fuse layout and connector position.

Yer, it's the wrong power supply but it has all the voltages required. It really wasn't unusual to come across that because system 7s were a lot harder to find but every operator had system 3-4 machines laying around not making any money full of parts.

As for that post, Vid knows it all and I would strongly recommend doing his mods. They are very well thought out and the one mod that stands out is fusing the bridge rectifiers, something Williams should have done before leaving the factory. I have seen many a Williams with a cooked transformer a fuse would have saved.

7A SB for the grey wires fuse (if 5A works you can leave it),

20A for the yellow wire fuse. ( GI) ...looks like its due for a new holder.?

its a magnet fuse on the playfield. 8A SB

look at the wire color and the schematic ( or the rest of the board) to work out what the insert board fuse is.

as pinballer suggests its probably not the wrong one, more likely just an early edition

Transformer is in the backbox but wait... there’s also one in the cab?!

I have a Transformer in the cab which is for the displays

think your BK is like mine, early system 7, which came the system 6 power supply (and cut outs behind the drop targets?)

Wow @skids you are spot on! Mine is a spitting image of yours inside the cabinet. It also has the older power supply board.

I'm actually getting more tempted to install new fuses and the BR fuse failsafe and turn it on.. and see what happens
