TAF from scratch

Hang on.. my bad

That fits inside the subway before it enters the swamp... allows balls to go down the subway only one way

I have not cleaned this yet!!!

Amazing work @FLEX

Are you building the cab from scratch as well? Pretty sure you've done that before so that should be a piece of cake.

Thanks mate!

If that turns out to be the only option than yeah, I will tackle another full build, but fingers crossed for an alternative though..

amazing work ! I want to see what happens when it's all connected up & the power turned on, with so much wiring work done, hope it's all in the correct place!

Me to !! :D

I will have plenty of spare fuse's at the ready ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just waiting for some parts to show up, and ordered some timber for the cab build. Thought I would have ago printing something to assist the ball moving through the swamp ( I have heard it can slow things down, and even have ball hangups).

First couple of trials went pear shaped, but I was just trying to be to tricky with those I think. Dumbed it right down, with a screw in either end to hold it in place (no drilling needed though), and boom !!

Had to come back to the bookcase mech and finish it off now that the top side is done. Had to go through the cabling and pin the 12 pin molex so fingers crossed I did this all correct. Also made a metal bracket to hold the corrugated tubing to the underside of the turntable (mounts on the machine screw bolt) as I noticed on some images elsewhere this is how it was done.

I noticed these 4 holes with T'nuts on the top side, does anyone know if these are used?

I think from memory that there were a couple unused but would have to go look and I’m still not home.

Will search my pics.

Can you show a pic of the playfield where the tnut's sit??

On one side they are pretty well under the Thing box, and on the other side they are under the top left corner plastics.

Yeah that picture looks split, something not right. I can’t make it out either [emoji3]

lol, yeah I though I would show both sides in one image so yes, it is split :)

I have looked at other online images and seen these are not used. Maybe they were part of the manufacturing process or something :unsure?

The wiring for the red flasher on the lower left part of the ramp (just before the wireform) really has me stumped. In the manual it suggest's it is on the same common as the 'Jet Bumpers' flasher's, which is linked to other flashers (red wire). But the common that goes to the other ramp flashers is a red/white wire. It seems odd that this flasher would have a different common to the rest? I would have assumed this isn't the case, and it uses the same common as the other flashers on the ramp (the red/white one) and not separate, but can someone please confirm this for me please?

I reckon you are correct and not used.

I will open up my completed taf and confirm but from this finished photo the right hand side is unused, cannot see the left hand side being under the thing box

  • 2 weeks later...

After a trip to Tassie for a week things are back on!

Picked up a nice new sheet of ply, and its time to start marking out panels, measuring everything 2,3,10 times so I only have to cut it once ;)

hmmmm, fresh ply

All marked up and ready to start cutting. Hopefully the weather will be kind this weekend so I can get it done.

Cutting time!!

First I had to go around each piece roughly to get it out of the sheet, then go around each part as precisely as possible.

All in a days work, ready for routing!

All that was left over from the full sheet;

Onto the router bench next day;

Yummy locking mitre joins!

Finished!

Its such a relief to not have screwed something up. Its very easy to cut something wrong, rout the wrong edge etc. Very happy :041::041:

Awesome job!!

Is the ply the same thickness as one used on all WPC cabinets (i.e. US)?

If so, do you where I can purchase some? I wouldn't mind to buy a sheet myself.

Keep up the great work?

Thanks

Ed

Thanks!

Yes, it is 3/4 inch the same as original WPC cabs, 19mm in metric. It is classed as AA-A marine ply, and I order it through a local timber supplier. The size is uncommon so you wont find it stocked generally.

Time for the base, including a tongue fr the cab groove

A bit of a trial fit before getting the glue out (remembering to drill screw holes before starting with glue!);

Glued and screwed;

Ran out of angled timber for corners so gotta do a trip to Bunnings, coming along though!

The great work continues. At this pace you'll be finished in a few weeks.

A quick question out of curiosity...why didn't you cut the coin door, rear of cabinet vents, and speaker hole before assembly?
