Midnight Resistance

Question

Hi Guys, trying to troubleshoot a midnight Resistance.

Have read and checked all ROMS (that are not hard mounted) OK and cleaned the legs, game fires up and plays, but next to no sprite action at all.

I have read through a few of Wombles repairs, so have an idea it may be the Winbond ROMS but would have thought that even crapped out it would display something of the sprites.

Cheers and thanks!

If the data output pins on all the RAMs are busy, then you likely have logic fault downstream, but a logic probe only shows if the outputs are active across the voltage threshold. Dead SRAMs can be very active, but when you see the waveform on a scope it is clearly toast.

So a logic probe is only useful if the RAM outputs are quiet, if they are you need to check what the /OE and /CE pins are doing, to see if the RAM should be talking on the bus. If it should be talking and is silent, then the SRAM is bad. Otherwise you have a logic fault in the SRAM controlling logic.
