I'm in again this year, but will say a a bit on what I believe are the views of a few.

It's a shame we keep getting more comps forced on us to suit the few point chasers. Every meet features a comp round and three meets now have an additional comp final. The running of the comps dominates the nights. People can say what they like about it not being comp focused but these changes keep pushing that way.

This way is to push it away from being more comp focused actually. So instead of having a dedicated finals round it’s tacked of at the end of a round instead. So we can enjoy skids place and cardinis place.

So it goes ?

Round 1 comp, then social play

Round 2 comp, then social

Round 3 comp, then final (social on free machines)

Round 4 comp, then social

Round 5 comp, then social

Round 6 comp, then final (social on free machines)

Round 7 comp, then social

Round 8 comp, then social

Round 9 comp, then final (social on free machines)

Round 10 wildball final (social on free machines)

Actually I intended to have the finals for each series at the start of the next series. Will be the point of conversation at the first meet.

So Series 1

Round 1 comp, then social

Round 2 comp, then social

Round 3 comp, then Social

Round 4 final for Series 1, then comp for Series 2, then social.

for Series 3

Round 10 hosts both Series 3 finals & Grand Final.

Rules changes after the Blackhole controversy of 2018. @skids you're on notice

Players were 'abusing' this rule for a couple of years now. I meant to announce the change after series 1 last year when The Walking Dead was over-played during that series final <_<.

come to think of it, so was Joker Poker <_<<_<

Even more time for socialising @Firepower!!

I was thinking about maybe having a flip frenzy at mine but how many machines do you need for one?

There is a formula for how many machines you need.

Essentially 2 for each machine and then some extra in the queue.

Based on the numbers of the people who actually come I would say you would have enough.

Do you have space for more?

Good idea by the way.

I think it's tough for the organisers as a lot of people are there solely for the comps

I'm there for the socialising & just checking out and playing a wide variety of games but feel this year I will be more comp orientated for once

Each to his/her own....just enjoy it. Despite any occasional comp-related hiccups from some of the more serious young insects along the way, I can say hand-on heart that I've loved every Wildball meet I've attended in the last 3 years. Awesome hosts opening up their homes and sharing their machines with a great bunch of people...that's the spirit that has pervaded all along, whether you're slugging it out in the comp , just horsing aound, whatever. Fun is king and I can't see that changing.See y'all soon !

I recall some guy playing an awful lot of Metallica at one of those finals too.

I havent been in wildball from the start but was there a time when there were no comps at all? I have only played since there has been "play 6 machines and get ranked against other players"

Wildball has always been a comp league. It evolved out of meets that a lot of guys were hosting socially and those meets often had a comp attached. Retailers would sometimes send stuff for prizes and the host would sometimes make up a trophy. Wildball just formalised the process. The guys who were hosting meets then generally became Wildball hosts which meant more work to get ready for their night, so most of them stopped having the more informal meets.

Yes there has been an element of comp from the start, but not with the same emphasis.

Over time the number of participants has grown and the number of machines played as part of the comp round has also increased.

In the first year the comp was played on three machines with an additional novelty game (one ball game)

In the second year the comp was played on four machines with an additional novelty game (best Gorgar game)

Last year the comp was played on six machines and we had mid season finals and finals.

Purely social meets with no comps still happen outside Wildball.

You Wildball guys have an awesome time - comps or no comps..period (IMO). Houseball doesnt have any points because we have so many comps so no need. Houseball still has a comp and prize money so theres still competition. Even when theres a meet people have an impromptu mini comp for winner take all - the competitive nature in some of us still want to win. You'll always get the socialites, the competitors and the ones who want to be social (read have too many beers) and be competitive - LOL.

NSW needs comps. What better way under a socialable format.

I would love to visit a Wildball meet but the planets/moons/whatever have never aligned and probably wont now since my parents have moved :(

Keep up the good work !

I hope to make many of the meets this year!! Not getting off to a great start as our family organised a getaway up North for the date as the first meet :( I think the comp side is social. There's nothing more social than being in a group of 4, sometimes with ppl I dont know and playing pinball. I have the best time getting to know my fellow players while waiting for my turn, getting and giving tips, learning new tricks, feeling out new machines! I'm not grasping what's not social about the comp side? I am a social player and love catching up at these meets amd comps make it more interactive sometimes because you can be placed with different people and it allows you to meet new people. My first meet I knew only brett and I was placed in a group with 44 and skidsy and they were so friendly and I had the best time! There'll still be time for social for those who dont make the final .. we could play stall ball!! Thats so fun .. I never really male the finals anyway haha

Being very new to Wildball here's my 2 cents. The comps have been a great way for me to get to know some of you. Yep the social side is awesome and the comps have helped me to introduce myself. Being grouped with ppl while playing you're put in an environment where you talk to ppl you may not normally approach or havent met yet, thus making it easier to start a conversation & hopefully form a friendship. I still havent met so many of you & I hope in the 1st few WB meets this yr Im grouped with ppl I havent met so I can continue to make new friendships that share a common interest in pinballs.

There are comps and then there are comps.

Pinball is competitive

Either competing to get a free game or just competing against others to get the highest score.

I understand the need for points in sydney as there are no operater comps anymore. Just look how many sydneysidets are in the ACS. If they are they have travelled interstate to get the points.

Wildball is the most friendliest comp you could ever play in ( with the occasional dummy spit from someone )

Fun first, on some of the best machines you'll never fnd on site.
