Wildball has always been a comp league. It evolved out of meets that a lot of guys were hosting socially and those meets often had a comp attached. Retailers would sometimes send stuff for prizes and the host would sometimes make up a trophy. Wildball just formalised the process. The guys who were hosting meets then generally became Wildball hosts which meant more work to get ready for their night, so most of them stopped having the more informal meets.

Yes there has been an element of comp from the start, but not with the same emphasis.

Over time the number of participants has grown and the number of machines played as part of the comp round has also increased.

In the first year the comp was played on three machines with an additional novelty game (one ball game)
In the second year the comp was played on four machines with an additional novelty game (best Gorgar game)

Last year the comp was played on six machines and we had mid season finals and finals.

Purely social meets with no comps still happen outside Wildball.

You Wildball guys have an awesome time - comps or no comps..period (IMO). Houseball doesnt have any points because we have so many comps so no need. Houseball still has a comp and prize money so theres still competition. Even when theres a meet people have an impromptu mini comp for winner take all - the competitive nature in some of us still want to win. You'll always get the socialites, the competitors and the ones who want to be social (read have too many beers) and be competitive - LOL.

NSW needs comps. What better way under a socialable format.

I would love to visit a Wildball meet but the planets/moons/whatever have never aligned and probably wont now since my parents have moved

Keep up the good work !
    Pinball Meets...I love em

I hope to make many of the meets this year!! Not getting off to a great start as our family organised a getaway up North for the date as the first meet I think the comp side is social. There's nothing more social than being in a group of 4, sometimes with ppl I dont know and playing pinball. I have the best time getting to know my fellow players while waiting for my turn, getting and giving tips, learning new tricks, feeling out new machines! I'm not grasping what's not social about the comp side? I am a social player and love catching up at these meets amd comps make it more interactive sometimes because you can be placed with different people and it allows you to meet new people. My first meet I knew only brett and I was placed in a group with 44 and skidsy and they were so friendly and I had the best time! There'll still be time for social for those who dont make the final .. we could play stall ball!! Thats so fun .. I never really male the finals anyway haha

Being very new to Wildball here's my 2 cents. The comps have been a great way for me to get to know some of you. Yep the social side is awesome and the comps have helped me to introduce myself. Being grouped with ppl while playing you're put in an environment where you talk to ppl you may not normally approach or havent met yet, thus making it easier to start a conversation & hopefully form a friendship. I still havent met so many of you & I hope in the 1st few WB meets this yr Im grouped with ppl I havent met so I can continue to make new friendships that share a common interest in pinballs.

There are comps and then there are comps.
    Pinball is competitive
Either competing to get a free game or just competing against others to get the highest score.
I understand the need for points in sydney as there are no operater comps anymore. Just look how many sydneysidets are in the ACS. If they are they have travelled interstate to get the points.
Wildball is the most friendliest comp you could ever play in ( with the occasional dummy spit from someone )
Fun first, on some of the best machines you'll never fnd on site.
