Rob1966
It’s been a long time coming but I have finally got myself a new project to work on, I picked this up on Saturday with big thanks to Stu @Pinballer. It needs a lot of love and attention and its got a few minor headbox and cabinet repairs to do but apart from that it’s a pretty solid and complete machine. It is going to get a full going over cosmetically and mechanically which will include full cab re-stencil and a good clean up of the playfield which looks fairly nice apart from having years of grime built up on it. I have already started compiling a list of parts for a big PBR order which will include just about anything that is made that can be replaced, I’m also getting a few things from Pinball Rescue just to add to those finishing touches. So stay tuned for updates!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited March 13, 2022 by Rob1966 Photos needed re installing

ajfclark
Should clean up nice :) Isn't Funland a 2" flipper game? Yes, looking at Ipdb they've cracked the bottom of the slingshot plastics and drilled new holes? I think you can see the hole under the right flipper on the opening post? With 3" flippers the ball would just be able to go between them

Rob1966
Gotlieb Funland Ok time to start getting into this resto so while I’m still compiling the big order that I’m about to make for PBR, I thought first things first so before any cabinet repairs and stripping paint off, the cabinet artwork has to be copied and stencils made so that’s what I’ve been up to for the last couple of days. Rob1966
Gotlieb Funland Ok a bit more work done this weekend, there were a few repair jobs to the head and cabinet that I was dreading but when I actually got into it they weren’t that bad and I was really happy with they way they turned out. First was the head box it had a big split in the bottom that needed repairing, a bit of gluing and screwing and filler and sanding to hide all the screws and nicks you will never see the repair when it gets the under coat. https://i.imgur.com/buiCTLt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XsUjxpM.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gJlOGOT.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rJ0m3uG.jpg Then pretty much every corner of the head box needed a repair they were all damaged from years of neglect. And again more gluing and screwing and of course filler to hide everything and when painted you’d never know that there was ever any damage. https://i.imgur.com/cDregeQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3dbUYnt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3dbUYnt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7IiESOv.jpg And I also had a bit of time to start the cab repairs but this will be a slow ongoing process but so far I’m really happy with the way things are turning out. https://i.imgur.com/nYuCvJo.jpg Sent https://i.imgur.com/fIgZn79.jpg from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited August 26, 2018 by Rob1966 Trying to work out photo web hosting
Rob1966
Look what showed up in the post today all the way from Rochester USA, my 3D printed Gotlieb ball in play light diverter. Just one more piece to the ever growing puzzle, I actually didn’t even know that I needed one until it was brought up in another thread, you learn new things all the time with each new project. https://i.imgur.com/0KVDgM2.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rob1966
Bit more work done today it’s so hard to find time during the week. Finally got the cab fully stripped and sanded down also got all the cabs minor repairs done. Just have to wait for all the filler to dry and another quick sand back then I can start the undercoating. Cab before sanding https://i.imgur.com/i4TMDSk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ksHJD8O.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MTrgZJC.jpg And a few little repairs https://i.imgur.com/X1spxbw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ARVJ1Zf.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xfMd95x.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dPjeqgG.jpg https://i.imgur.com/C72mjN1.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zsEZWTm.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rob1966
Not much progress done lately but every little bit counts, finally got the cab all sanded down and all repairs to the head and cab are all fixed, and now with the first of the under coats on you can’t tell where any of the repairs have been done at all. Just need another coat of undercoat tomorrow and then I will leave it till next weekend to start on the cabs final colour which is antique white. https://i.imgur.com/iWCcrAs.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3YUErjF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cgWw4zF.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rob1966
Two coats of undercoat now completed and big pinball resource order turned up today, it’s the closest thing to feeling like a kid at Christmas when a pinball parts order turns up lol. But I can’t do anything with it for quite awhile yet until I’ve finished with the cabinet repaint. https://i.imgur.com/Gpz0Qi8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ObA4eYG.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SDzAtvN.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
kimbleseven
Looks like alot of work on the headbox. I wonder how all that damaged happened over the years? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk Yeah I can’t believe how rough and little care people take with these machines over the years I’ve got a fair bit to do with this one with repairs playfield and some missing bits and pieces, but what the heck that’s part of the challenge isn’t it. Rob1966
I had a bit of time to do a few bits and pieces this week the cabinet has had it’s two coats of antique white and I even managed to get the spatter done yesterday because of the nice weather and if I get time later today I will transfer the stencil designs to the cab for the taping up process to come. https://i.imgur.com/mw7C9au.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zbkAxpY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0oNkTf7.jpg https://i.imgur.com/NXUnody.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dLzoDrx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EdryXsX.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rob1966
I spent about 6 hrs straight on this thing today and by the end of it I was physically and mentally exhausted, first up transferred the designs from the stencils that I made to the cabinet and head box. https://i.imgur.com/b7KOxS4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/29G4FjI.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ReVhZxm.jpg Next up comes the masking and I absolutely hate this bit it literally took me hours to get it all masked up. https://i.imgur.com/S53CaaQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wk2VAmi.jpg Another pain in the butt was all the arcs on the ends of the triangle shapes if I knew how much extra work it was going to be I would have just done what Tony Illawarra Steelers did on his Fun Fair and just kept them straight edges instead. https://i.imgur.com/MpHbxQ2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uZN0eW0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zfVF7Mj.jpg Ok so all nearly ready for the first colour just have to fill in all the bare parts with news paper off cuts so I don’t get paint everywhere when I use the roller, also made a trip to Bunnings to get the two colours I settled with these two shades the red and the blue as they seemed to match the original colours the best, but who cares if there not exact they look good enough for me. Well that s it for today anyway because I’ve had an absolute gut full of this thing today paint can wait till tomorrow. https://i.imgur.com/fDeQmKq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rDzxVDD.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Rob1966
Gotlieb Funland Bit more progress today spent another 1 to 2 hours work prepping before I could get to put down the first of the colours the blue, just had to cover everything up with paper otherwise I just know myself to much I would have got paint somewhere it shouldn’t be. https://i.imgur.com/nyxTXwy.jpg And next if I’ve learnt one thing off this site by not having bleeding coming through it’s thanks to @illawarra_steelers and @millsy56 and their resto threads and just something so simple as to just use your finger dipped into the base coat and rubbing it along the edges of the masking to seal the edges. https://i.imgur.com/jDdNHLM.jpg https://i.imgur.com/pMv43q1.jpg And once the sealing paint is dry it’s the start of three fairly light coats of the blue with about one to two hours in between coats. https://i.imgur.com/YzsBEhK.jpg Then after about another two hours worth of drying off comes the paper. https://i.imgur.com/E0jZPLO.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9H4gre5.jpg Then slowly the masking comes off and boy I was rapt with the way it turned out not one bit of bleeding came through and the points and lines were so sharp. https://i.imgur.com/XC8NtOc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DzLKtDU.jpg And just roughly assembled to get an idea of what the final result is going to look like, even with just the blue it’s already starting to look good next update will be with the red colours done. I can’t begin to explain how much prep work is involved with a restoration project you don’t appreciate what these guys do with these machines until you have done one of these for yourself. https://i.imgur.com/EXmGghX.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yQ3hFsr.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Rob1966
I’ve spent pretty much the entire day today working on finishing up the paint on this old girl. The arks on the reds and the masking up took the best part of over four straight hours and by the time I had that part of it done I was ready to chuck it in for the day, but I soldiered on and kept going I really just wanted to get it all over and done with. All masked and papered up https://i.imgur.com/4Q9P1mf.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0oOijTv.jpg And the old finger in the base coat paint trick to seal up all the edges https://i.imgur.com/BKwMvlc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/D2efziO.jpg Red paint all applied and I’ve got to admit I really wasn’t happy with the colour when I was applying it but then when I started removing masking the colours really popped and I thought yes that looks good. https://i.imgur.com/WsBPQ5J.jpg https://i.imgur.com/pdYXGMj.jpg The lines turned out so sharp gotta be happy with that https://i.imgur.com/4OAy8Na.jpg https://i.imgur.com/KCsaOzM.jpg Nearly done https://i.imgur.com/zPnShJx.jpg All done and looking good really happy with the lines and the colours now that I can see them together https://i.imgur.com/WMP4GvZ.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
