The BOWLAND Tenpin Bowling Centre in Port Pirie is pleased to be hosting the SA Masters for 2018. This series of Pinball Tournaments will take place from the Friday evening through to Sunday.

The inaugural Bowland Pinball Challenge 2018 is intended to become an annual event for the Mid North region of South Australia. The SA Masters component is a one off for this year 2018, but what a great way to start this party with a bang!

The venue has plenty of space, an eatery providing a good variety of meals, and is also licensed.

There will be Trophies and prizemoney for each event, including "I Played Better Than Two Other Pinheads!" trophies. The SA Masters Main Event 1st Place takes home a Custom Pinball Trophy and minimum $400.

A Big Thank You to the Sponsors:

It is intended there will be 7 banks of 3 arenas available for events. Caps will be set around these numbers.

From the outset I will state that if you do need accommodation book it as early as possible or risk facing No Vacancy! ... This is why the thread was started as early as possible, be sure not to dilly-dally about with accommodation if you are even considering attending from out of town. Do Not underestimate the capacity for Spontaneous Nyrstar Furnace Shutdowns (or any other unexpected events) to occupy All Available Accommodation in town for A Month Or More, at the bat of an eyelid!!. .... BOOK NOW!, you can easily cancel if it turns out you can not make it.

We will have an unsanctioned warm up (probably "Heads Up") Friday afternoon, as well as something for those not making the finals on Sunday.

It's On... like Donkey Kong!

This post and the next will be kept updated.

1. Once registration has closed, the number of players will be divided by 2.6 to determine how many machines will be used for the tournament. If the number of players is 30 or less then the number of players will be divided by 2.8 to determine the number of machines.

3. We press the start button on the stop watch and away we go (in this case 2 hours).

4. When a match is completed:

-The players circle the winner on the score card and the loser will stay on the machine, UNLESS he/she has lost twice Consecutively, in this case the winner will stay on the machine.

-BOTH players leave the machine and LINE UP to notify the Person Managing the Queue and Await Direction. The player whom is determined to be leaving the machine has their name card placed at the rear of the queue by the Person Managing the queue.

-When waiting in the queue, the player grabs a new score card and fills in their name in player 2 position, so it is ready to go.

-THE PLAYER STAYING ON THE MACHINE ALWAYS PLAYS AS "PLAYER 1".

-The player at the front of the queue moves up to join the player staying on that machine, their name will be announced out loud by the Person Managing the queue. They bring their prepared score card to the queue desk to have the Machine Name and Match Number added to their score card by the Person Managing the queue. The Previous Match score card is collected and presented to the score keeper behind the desk by the Person Managing the queue.

5. Players Must Not add or remove their name place cards to/from the place queue. Name cards will be received and issued by the Person Managing the queue Only.

6. At the end of 2 hours no more games may start. Wins will count for one point (+1), a Loss counts for losing one point (-1), final score is the Total Number of Wins minus the Total Number of Losses. Whomever has the Highest Score once all games have concluded is declared the winner. Ties will be broken by a single game playoff on a machine chosen at random. Some games might be modified from their original specification. Any modifications will be highlighted.

Awesome!! ... the more the merrier! :) ...

We want to put full names in the registration list this time, it helps to get the right names entered into the IFPA WPPR list, @Dobz could you please either post your name or send @rodneypapish a PM (if you don't want your full name in the thread then let him know that as well in your PM, and we'll add it to the hard copy tourney list only) .

He is getting onto the registration list in the next day or two. Thanks Rocket! :023:

No problem, put down Chris Dobell.

Quick question for Port Pirie guys,

I know there is Bowland, A1 Pizaa and Pacman's Arcade. Is there anywhere else around I should check out and does anyone run small tournaments locally?

Thanks guys

Great, thanks mate!

@andrew mathews of A1 Pizza is planing to start running some mini-leagues in the not too distant future!

There is also Little Beans Play Cafe, and The International Hotel.

The games pacmans has are from a guy in Adelaide, they tend to be not as well maintained. All of the others come from any one of three individuals whom are Locals. S.O.L. :)

Cheers!

Wow!

I didn't know that there was so many Local pinball heads (I call Port Pirie local :D ).

Would be great to catch up with them sometime!

Also if you need a few more machines I could bring down my BSD and Space Jam.

Here's a link for the local casual get together mate...

https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/94164-4P-Club-Southern-Flinders-Ranges

The BSD is one we don't have that would be great! (I do have a Dracula, but I got mine as a hanging wreck Lol... it is still a major W.I.P.!) ... supply of a machine entitles a competitor to have their entry fees waived. Fee Free Entry ... there are 4-5 locals whom make up the collective supplying games for these two annual tournaments (Federal and Bowland).

Thanks!

Since now the main event has been changed to start a fair bit later on Friday evening to accommodate for those traveling from further north and south, and some of the locals I have talked to are interested in more Pinball Time! ... we are considering adding a warmup event on the Friday afternoon, maybe Pin-golf. This would have to start about 1pm.

Unfortunately Bowland is not able to provide for the Sunday apart from the usual hours of Noon til 4pm, so Sunday is basically not an option.

The "events in detail" will be added to the first posts soon, before the IFPA applications are sent off.

Can we please also have Daniel Robinson added to the registered list @rodneypapish... and looks like dmj65 goes on the interested list, at least ;)

Cheers!

Another minor change we have been considering, which has now been decided upon, is to hold the Group Matchplay on Friday night without any Finals. This means that the Best Game Card tournament (and its Finals) on Saturday can now be IFPA sanctioned since this way it will not conflict with Matchplay Finals. The first post has been updated to reflect this change.

Costs for entry will still be the same, First card free with unlimited $5 cards thereafter. We will not require registration for this event.

This place has the power capacity and space to run 30 pins comfortably if we so desired. The now redundant "console" area behind the bowling lanes will be put to good use as the central desk from which we will run the Flip Frenzy... also where the big screen/s will be positioned.

They are being cracked from the same mould.

This is the style for 2018! ... the plan is for each year to have a fresh take on trophies.

So in 2019 the custom trophies will be something a bit different, but will again be the same style for Federal and Bowland. That means these will be the last run of this particular style. ;)

Unfortunately Amity and I will have to pull out; recieved a wedding invite today that's being held on the same weekend [emoji29] Best of luck Ray, and we will see you at the Federal one.

Yourself and Amity might be able to substitute with the lead up to the long weekend prior. Friday Sep 28th is the last day of qualifying for the Bowland mini league. Then Saturday 29th is the finals for the mini league ;)

A large proportion of the games will already be set up by then, in readiness for the Challenge :)
