TOURNAMENT FORMATS

Best Game Card.

1. Friday 12th of April 2019. 4pm-11pm - Qualifying, 7 hour period. Unlimited number of 7 game cards.

2. Saturday 13th of April 3pm-6:30pm - Finals for top 50%, or top 16 players, whichever is the lesser. Top qualifiers may get a bye depending on numbers.

3. Format Type: Papa Style Card Based qualifying (7 games per card, 7 hours of qualifying). Single Elimination finals (best of 5 games).

4. For Each Card you nominate 7 of the available Arenas (machines), and record your score for One Game (one attempt) at each of your nominated Arenas.

5. Upon completing their game all players must request a scorekeeper to have their result verified, it is then registered and entered into Matchplay.

6. Once a Card is completed, it is submitted. The player can then nominate a new card.

7. "Selfies" are not acceptable for verification of game scores.

8. Entry fee includes unlimited number of cards. Only the players highest scoring Card will be counted.

Group Knockout.

1. Information and questions from players 9:50am.

2. Tournament: Saturday 10am-2:30pm.

3. 7-strike group knockout tournament.

4. For each round you will be placed in a group of four (or three if odd number of entrants) and allocated a machine to play one game on. In 4 player matches, whoever finshes Second and Third will receive 1 strike, whoever finishes Fourth receives 2 strikes. In 3 player matches, whoever finshes Second will receive 1 strike, whoever finishes Third receives 2 strikes. You stay in the comp until you receive Seven Strikes. Last player standing is the winner.

Flip Frenzy.

1. Saturday evening - 8.00-11.00pm.

2. Once all players have registered, the number of players will be divided by 2.4 to determine how many machines will be used for the tournament.

3. As soon as we go through all the info each machine is randomly assigned 2 players. The remaining players are placed in a queue.

4. We press the start button on the stop watch and away we go (in this case 3 hours).

5. When a match is completed:

- the players circle the winner on the score card and the loser stays on the machine, unless he/she has lost twice consecutively, in which case the winner stays on.

- the person leaving the machine hands the score card to the scorer at the computer. That person then heads to the rear of the queue. When waiting in the queue, the player grabs a score card and fills in their name in player 2 position so it is ready to go.

- THE PLAYER STAYING ON THE MACHINE PLAYS IN POSITION 1.

- the player at the front of the queue moves up to play the player staying on the machine.

6. At the end of 3 hours no more games may start. Whoever wins the most games in that time is declared the winner. Ties will be broken by the fewest losses and if still tied, by a single game playoff on a machine chosen at random. Ties will only be broken for first, second and third places.

Group Matchplay.

1. Sunday from 10am-3pm.

2. There will be 6 rounds of 2 matches (12 games per player).

3. In each round players will be placed in groups of 4 (or 3 if odd numbers).

4. In each round each group will play a single game on two different machines and allocated points according to their finishing position; 7/5/3/1 for four player groups and 7/4/1 for three players groups. This is the IFPA system of scoring.

5. For the first round, groupings will be random.

6. After the first round, groupings will be balanced.

7. At the close of the sixth round, the player with the highest points score will be declared the tournament winner.

8. Ties will be broken by the number of first place finishes, then by the number of second place finishes and finally, if necessary, a single game play-off. Ties will only be broken for first, second and third places.

There will be Trophies for each event as well as cash prizes. There will be special custom made trophies for the Flip Frenzy!

Entry at the door, or in the last two weeks prior to the event, will be $40 per event or $120 for all four over the weekend.

Entries paid/finalised before close of business on Friday 29th March 2019 will be discounted; $30 per event or $90 for all four.

After the 2018 Federal event it is easier to estimate how many entrants the venue can comfortably accommodate. We are looking at a cap of about 48 players.

I believe Mark is planning to have a wider range of food available for those not wanting to eat out elsewhere.

Just looking at the possible games list in post 2 and remembered something from last year's comp.

The Simpsons - Data East has a mystery award "catch up scores" which reared it's ugly head during one of Greg's matches allowing his opponent to come from a long way behind and almost take the win. I was asked for an opinion of what the ruling should be at the time which was "it's a feature of the game not a bug" but if it was me (which it's not) I'd be leaning to not using that machine only because of that feature.

At least it's not the swapping scores mystery from Bugs Bunny

Thanks for the info Rob, good to know! ... Simpsons won't be there though, it's owner seems to be a bit busy with other things.

There are a couple of basically confirmed titles:

TBAG

Stellar Wars

POTC (JJP)

Seawitch

ACDC Premium

Judge Dredd

Since there are 4 events this year, we have decided to allocate points for each event to name a Grand Champion of the weekend.

The Federal Flip Frenzy Grand Champion will be found by allocating points to the final standings for each of the events. 10 points for 1st, 9 points for 2nd ... so on. Points alocated to the events namesake, Federal Flip Frenzy, will be Doubled for the winner and spread more widely across the field; 20 pts - 1st, 19pts - 2nd, 18pts - 3rd ... so on. The maximum achievable points is 50. A tie would be broken by the most first place finishes, then the best lowest finishing position. If it is still tied then both players share the title of Grand Champion.

After a bit of discussion about how to celebrate the Grand Champion, there will now be a Port Pirie Pinball Players perpetual trophy. This will record champions from any major local pinball event, say 3 or more tournaments. As it is there will be Bowland Pinball Challenge and Federal Flip Frenzy. The major shield or trophy is yet to be created, and will be held at local venues. We also have a small placeholder trophy for the Grand Champion to hold until the next tournament, upon it's return for the next event there will be a name engraved plaque ready to be applied to it for the current holder. It is handed in to be presented to the next GC.

Due to some unforseen circumstances the POTC is now not going to be available.

On a positive note, we do however have some additional older games ; FJ, Lost World, and Space Station.
