Rock-Ola 1494 Jukebox selects wrong record

gordo

Question

Hi all,

I am rebuilding this jukebox and it has fought with me every step of the way.

It certainly has had a full life.

My latest problem is that 90% of the records selected play as they should. Great!

The last 10% select the record immediately preceding what I have selected.

This only happens for the bottom row of the selection program.

These are the records numbered J2/K2, J4/K4, J6/K6, J8/K8, J0/K0.

I assumed this would have been a mis-adjusted 'write-in' carriage.

I checked my manual and adjusted the 'write-in' carriage. Unfortunately, no improvement.

I checked all the connections on the carriage and selector pins, all appear OK.

I checked the 'contact fingers' on the carriage are contacting with the printed circuit disc, all appear OK.

If I select a record (say J6) the 'write-in' selector carriage stops at G6 (one record early).

If I continue to select J6 the carriage moves slightly forward each time, after 3 or 4 attempts it eventually moves enough to select the correct record.

I have oiled everything.

I am out of ideas, can anyone offer a suggestion?

Kind Regards

Gordon

Hi All,

This is how I found the problem (I think)!

I started out all over again.

I reset the 'write-in' selector and checked every plug by opening up the wiring to ensure continuity.

I cleaned and checked the 'write-in' coil and 'stop' relay.

This all provided no improvement. It looked as if I was going to live with 90% selections.

The only thing left was the selector buttons. I reset the selector switch lock bar etc (again).

No change. Then looked to the selector buttons.

Cleaned and adjusted the buttons...and it worked!!

I spent 20-30 hours looking for this problem and must have overlooked the cause.

I still don't understand why the letters J-K and numbers 2-4-6-8-0 all work with other selections, but just not when selected together.

One of the mysteries of jukebox repair.

My 'take-out' message is Check Everything...TWICE.

Regards

Gordon
