Jurassic Park Project Restore

While cleaning the DMD area tonight, I noticed what appears to be burn marks on the front of my DMD screen.. After some disassembly, it’s just the plastic cover on the front of the DMD - PHEW!!

Any idea where I’d get another of these from? This one looks like it’s had a few arguments with a cigarette at some point..

Not the same but may fit...

Anyone know where to buy this plastic cover for my DMD? Can you purchase anti-reflective covers at all to limit the DMD reflecting off the glass?

Plastic cover, easiest thing to make yourself. Buy a piece of lexan or arcylic on line and just cut it to size. Anti reflective sheet used to be available from Mr Pinball and they do work nice. Makes the display a little less bright but reduces the glare significantly. They just stick to the DMD glass with small double sided tabs.

  • 8 months later...

Hi again dino-lovers, I know it’s been over 6 months, but I’ve been steadily working away at the park the whole time. Due to some great purchases, I ended up taking on a lot more than I originally intended. I’ve purchased a 2nd playfield, 2nd ramp, 2nd subway & heaps of mechs. Done a LOT of cleaning and polishing of parts and mechs, built my own rotisserie and taken far too many pictures (can you ever have enough?).

Below are some progress shots, and I’m at the point where I’m about to swap the wiring harness over to the new playfield, and start populating it with the cleaned up parts.

One question I’ve got though, is how to clean up my TRex?? I’ve unplugged him and unscrewed the mechanism, but now that he’s out of his pen and next to some of the other shiny things, he looks like he’s come out of the wrong end of a Godzilla movie.....

Anyone have any tips on cleaning him up without destroying him or removing all his paint? He’s also a bit sluggish in his sideways movement, not sure if there’s anything I can easily do to try to rectify that also while he’s taking a nap? Thanks.

Rotisserie I built:

As a side note, don't leave your 3-year-old unsupervised with a large jar of coins... <_<

Jurassic Park Project Restore

Tonight’s job was pop bumpers. Good thing I purchased a spare, as one of the originals had a cracked and broken mount..

I’ve never fully rebuilt pop bumpers before, so it was a good experience to see the massive difference.

I changed the white skirts to black, as I think it suits the machine a bit better - at least I hope.

Out with the old:

Anyone know where to get vinyl for JP reprinted? I have a couple of problematic parts, such as the green vinyl near the TRex scoop.

Even if someone had scans I could use at my local printing place..

Here’s the one from my old playfield, which I removed, in an attempt to reattach to the new playfield (as only half exists on the new PF), but I’m not sure how viable that idea is..

what do you use to polish the metal gates and flaos?

Sent from my SM-G973F using Aussie Arcade mobile app

This makes all the parts shiny:

I’ve used just over a whole tin for this machine - but it was FILTY... So that’s probably more than normal I guess

I’ve also heard good things about this as well, but not tried it yet:

So this afternoon I finally finished soldering and screwing the wiring harness back onto the underside of the playfield.

This right here is the best feeling in the world right now:

No screws left over

No holes left empty

As this is my first full rebuild, does anyone have any suggestions on a good way to test all my wiring/coils etc, that I’m not gonna blow a fuse or transistor etc on a board somewhere when I turn it all on?

Okay, so tonight I finished up the wiring and turned it on for a test.

Unfortunately all I got was the playfield lamps flash once, a TRex roar, no DMD display & two red LEDs on my CPU board - any suggestions?

I haven’t touched these boards at all, aside from unplugging & replugging the various cable sockets to remove the playfield.
