Jurassic Park Project Restore

Recommended Posts

Hi all, first time restore here, so any advice is welcome :)

I purchased this Jurassic Park earlier in the year from the Pinball Shed, working and in need of a bit of TLC. It's fully playable, but enjoyment levels are a bit average, although all the important (read expensive) stuff is working - boards (Thanks Tony!), ramps and of course the TRex.

The cabinet is in pretty shabby shape, but I'm not planning on fixing that at the moment either for varying reasons. I figure I can come back to that at some point in the future if I decide to.

Main plan is to clean everything up, replace the broken things, and restore it back to glory (minus the cabinet for the moment).

I've purchased most of the replacement parts, plus a few extra goodies, including a spare playfield (in much better nick than this one), so it should turn out pretty well I hope.

I'll post progress as I get time.

Jurassic Park Project Restore

I started this weekend with a good wipe down and decided to clean up the light panel behind the translite first.

Anyone know where I can get one of these labels?? I can’t find a yellow one online anywhere & mine was attacked by my toddler after this pic...

Jeez that's grubby underneath. looking at the colour? of the plastic subway. Is that the smoky version?.

A bit hard to tell from the one picture of the cab but sure its missing the topper but the colour looks great.

As said above, it'll take a bit of a scrub and some time but should turn up ok.

Good game once everything is working as it should. I'll be following you bringing this baby back to her shiny best.

Haha - honestly I work at a coal terminal and I’ve seen cleaner dozers in my time... it’s like someone buried this thing in a coal mine for a year... soo much blackness...

It’s not missing the whole topper... I have part of it and the reflector!! They’re in great nick!!

I hadn’t thought of marketing that subway as the Smokey version... Good stuff ;)

I honestly thought it was too far gone, so purchased a much clearer one online a while back to replace it...

Anyone interested in a 2nd hand Smokey subway for Jurassic Park?? [emoji23][emoji23]

Jurassic Park Project Restore

Got the light panel back in tonight. I’m trialling some RGB LEDs behind the ‘Jurassic Park’ words. Thoughts? They don’t always stay in sync, but I’m okay with that, I like the subtle effect.

I now realise that the white LEDs I‘ve added, aren’t good for behind the translite due to some lovely halo effects.. :( (seen to the right of the TRex)

Though this might actually work well behind the sun on the left...

Gotta replace those LEDs & add the Caution label back when I’m happy with the printout.

I really like the #455 blinkers at the bottom, but can’t find any LED blinkers in Australia

Any suggestions on type of LEDs to use behind the translite to avoid the halo?

While cleaning the DMD area tonight, I noticed what appears to be burn marks on the front of my DMD screen.. After some disassembly, it’s just the plastic cover on the front of the DMD - PHEW!!

Any idea where I’d get another of these from? This one looks like it’s had a few arguments with a cigarette at some point..

Jurassic Park Project Restore

I finally got to some playfield disassembly today.. phew.. There’s certainly 20-million years of dirt on this bad boy...

Might have to give some of these an afternoon bath...

The disassembly went pretty well, however I ran into one hiccup trying to get this particular screw out..

Can anyone help me out on how I’m gonna get this jammed screw out short of a cutting tool?? I think I might need a replacement of both the screw and nut by the time I’m done :(

That is one filthy playfield!! It makes me shudder. Fit led's but leave the filth? I would just cut the screw, cheap as

I got that screw out eventually, just took a fair bit of encouragement.. the T-nut got destroyed tho..

The game didn’t come with any LEDs - most globes were blown or physically broken. I replaced some & put a few LEDs in various places for testing busted globes/sockets etc.

Ah. I’ve just seen this now. For stripped t nuts I use and old chisel to fold a flat edge up on the nut itself then use a pair of pliers to hold it whilst undoing the screw.

Trashes the nut but quick and easy. No help to you now I know but may help someone else reading.

Anyone know where to buy this plastic cover for my DMD? Can you purchase anti-reflective covers at all to limit the DMD reflecting off the glass?
