Lines on startup, disappear after 2 minutes minutes

Question

It’s a bit of a mantra to assume it’s a capacitor problem, but I get the feeling this is. I have a 15” CRT PC monitor in my cocktail cab. On start up the picture at the top is condensed, or shredded into horizontal lines. After a minute or two it comes good. A couple of questions then. Could it be a few aging capacitors? And would it be easy to narrow down which ones? Also, if that is the case, is it safe to keep using the monitor until one day it just doesn’t come good after warming up?

I'd say a cap or two for sure. A trick with heat related faults is to grab a can of freeze spray from the local electronics supplier and in your case while the monitor is nice and warmed up and working as it should, hit some of the caps in the vertical section with the spray and you should be able to replicate the fault identifying the faulty components.
