It was the 40th Anniversary of Space Invaders and what a terrific tournament we had with half the field of games never played before in the MGL. With games from 5 different manufacturers, some excellent scores were submitted as well. The final standings are below:

Congratulations to the 44 competitors who braved it out over the 8 tough games of MGLXXXVII. The Taito trio of games was quite brutal in Rastan, Zoo Keeper and Time Tunnel. Food Fight from Atari was very challenging with a standard joystick and Bank Panic from SEGA seemed to be a popular fun game for everyone. Kangaroo and Astro Blaster provided low scoring games and Amidar finished off the challenge with pigs and savages. The 4 games first time ever played in the MGL were Food Fight, Rastan, Time Tunnel and Astro Blaster. That’s 12 years of gaming, and now they turn up!

5 gamers made their MGL debut in Ragequit, Prow, Pearl2hu, KrumKill and Tonjo. Well played and welcome to the world of arcade competition and mayhem.

Vikleroy, Wirre.The.Man, John73, wolfman24, Pudwald, terencew, Barra, SectionZ, Ozfodder, JustAnotherRat, Fire_Power, Batfink and skids played some of the games to post some competitive scores, including in that group of gamers a game win, a runner up and 3 x 3rd placings. Nice gaming.

In the 22-29 finish band, CrazyKongFan, BandontheRun, Ivanstorm1973, Homar, Flash IV, Bishop, Pearl2hu and Foot played when they could to finish in an accomplished mid table.

Derek Camin managed to play all of the games in this MGL for the first time ever and was rewarded with an excellent 21st place.
Tim Gadler studied and gamed with his best placing on Food Fight for 20th place to make the Top 20.
Johnny Bonde took out 19th place with a fine 2nd placing on Amidar of 506,590 points.
ozfalcon posted his first score for the last game on the very last day to finish in 18th place.
John McAllister high scored on the zany Zoo Keeper for an overall finish of 17th place.
Benjamin Sweeney finished in 16th place to finish in the Top 20 of an MGL for the 4th time. Well played.
Paul Ford played great on Time Tunnel, submitted his score to TG which was approved yesterday, to finish overall with his other fine game performances in 15th place.
Rich Shearman played his best on the last game of the tournament in Amidar with 9th place to finish in overall 14th place.
Pessimeister played consistently well in his 4th MGL to finish in 13th place.
Patrick Stanley played brilliantly for runner up scores on Rastan and Kangaroo to finish in overall 12th place.
Kane Mawhinney scored a game high of 5th place on Amidar, together with his other good game scores, to finish in 11th place in his 29th MGL.
bigredbird enjoyed playing Zoo Keeper with his best in Amidar to finish in 10th place.
Robert Macauley came 3rd in Amidar for his best game placing to finish the MGL in 9th place. Macauley has now played in 24 consecutive MGL tournaments and finished in the Top 10 in every tournament. He is the current world no.2 on Twin Galaxies MAME ESI and continues to play at a very high level in arcade gaming.
Stephen Krogman high scored on Kangaroo for the game win and finished in 8th place.
Prow from Canada played excellent with his best in Bank Panic to finish in a mighty 7th place.
Kirk Rampersad played in his first ever MGL and played a fantastic tournament. He finished in the top 16 of every game with his best of 4th placing on the tough game of Rastan. He finished in 6th place overall and he has really shown this man can play.
Jacob Spring played excellent to win Game 1 of Food Fight to start the tournament and came in a fine 2nd place on the tricky train game of Time Tunnel. Overall he finished in 5th place for a very strong tournament performance.
Daniel Larsen finished in the Top 8 of the first 6 games with his biggest challenges in the last 2 games of the tournament to finish in overall 4th place, just missing out on a podium finish by 7 points.
Jeff Mikuska played his best ever MGL tournament in 8 to stand on the dias with a superb 3rd placing. It was an extremely well earned performance and demonstrated how a gamer with great determination and perseverance can improve their performance and enjoy it at the same time. Mikuska has finished in the Top 11 in every tournament he has competed in.
Matt Sales gamed great for his best ever finish in the MGL to take out 2nd place. His game placing record of 6th, 4th, 7th, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 5th and 10th was of such a high performance across all of the games, that now in only his 3rd MGL, he has finished in the Top 5 of every tournament. Outstanding.

Tournament winner congratulations to Chris Clemente who won 4 games and played very strongly on each game one at a time. His game placings were 2nd, 1st, 1st, 8th, 2nd, 1st, 2nd and 1st. An incredible performance with an average of 98.75 points per game. Well done Chris.

With 8 games contested there were 5 different game winners …

Chris Clemente (4), Andrew Barrow (1), John McAllister (1), Stephen Krogman (1) and Jacob Spring (1)

Congratulations to the game winners for hitting the high score on these games …

I have updated the virtual trophies for the Top 3 … starring Borf, the evil genius from the very exciting laser disc game of Space Ace from Cinematronics …

    Champion:
    Chris Clemente

    2nd:
    Matt Sales

    3rd:
    Jeff Mikuska

Tournaments like this one is for the gamer and tries to bind the video gaming universe across arcade games whether on the original cab or on MAME. The MGL will challenge the best in the world all over the planet, develop the gamers, and find them too. It takes a brave person to step forward, and give it their best shot. And for the novice gamers, there’s the fun and challenge to learn and enjoy the games with your fellow gamers in the MGL. I hope you enjoyed this tournament, it was another tough one, and aren’t they all …

Now for the Mystery Prize Draw, which will commence shortly.

Greta competition. Congratulations TIF - excellent play again.

Thank you very much OOO for organising. I got 5 PBs (including Time Tunnel which I had never played before) . It also cemented my opinion that Zookeeper is in the top 5 games ever.

    See you all for XXXVIII
