Arcade Console 999 In 1 Pandora's Box 5s Retro Arcade Video Games HDMI

Autosteve

Question

Anyone able to comment on this kit?

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Arcade-Console-999-In-1-Pandoras-Box-5s-Retro-Arcade-Video-Games-HDMI-VGA-Light-/282868857935

I have a Taito upright cabinet and I'm thinking one of these in place of the original Taito panel and a 19" 4:3 LCD screen connected to it via a HDMI and the job is nearly done.

Looks like it is powered off 12vDC like the LCD screen meaning I can put a car battery or two inside the cabinet to power the Pandora panel, the LCD screen and an amp for the sound, well that is the idea. Am I missing anything. Is there something better that is equivalent?

Just use one of these

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pandoras-Box-5s-1299-in-1-Arcade-Console-Jamma-PCB-Board-Video-Game-Box-VGA-HDM/132754638620?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

You can still power it from the 12V plug, it has, its hdmi, vga, has volume and speaker output, jamma for the buttons and joysticks and your away at only a 3rd of the price

I liked it that it is already in a panel to tell you the truth rather than needing to wire in all the buttons and joysticks via a Jamma connector.

Looks like the 1299 games in one has a few more games I wouldn't mind so that might be a better way to go.

If you want the best one, make sure you buy a 3A games one. The ones you have posted are clones (of clones) and they have a slower CPU which means a number of games run like ass. Mortal Kombat is one of the ones that is literally unplayable, it's so slow.

The 'genuine' Pandora's Boxes have a faster, quad core processor, but fewer games. However, the games run better and the hardware is considered to be of better quality.

Basically, if the model number is a 5s or a 6s, it's a clone. 3A games don't put the S on the end of their model numbers, it's just 5 and 6. Other companies clone them, add more games and call them S models.

Also get one where you get edit the game files. The Pandoras, at least the ones I've seen don't sort the games alphabetically so good luck finding the game you want.

What would your recommendation be?. I have $250 to blow on this now.

Actually I'm not sure. There's info in one of the other threads and you can grab one for around $80.00. I'll link the thread if I can find it

There are better ones, but this Arcade console was very decent for its times. I used it on my old LCD screen too (TFT is obviously a cheap option with poor color reproduction, but response time is excellent). The main advantage is a lot of old-school games. But modern Nintendo Switch is way better. Not only for a built-in screen but also for a tremendous collection of both old and modern games. It has everything except moba games. I play League of Legends on my android a lot. Since I have boosted acc from https://www.lolfinity.com/buy-lol-account/, I can't part with this game, so such consoles are not for me.
