AUSTRALIAN Coke Vendo 56 Square-Top Machine

Recommended Posts

Its cool and rarely comes up for sale, which is why I snapped it up on Ebay at the Buy it Now price of $700. Vintage stuff is cool, retro stuff can be just as cool if its not something mass produced, and makes a visual impact.

But yeah, I doubt this guy will get anywhere near what he asked for it.

Yeah I saw that. Even with the rarity of vintage Coke machines in this country, or taking into account the US exchange rate, $20k is a WTF amount. Plus, its not that rare of a machine.

The Cavalier C-51 used a unique vending mechanism that many referred to as an "ammo belt". Each bottle has its own tube it slides into and as the belt moves down each time the next bottle becomes available from the bottle door. There were a couple of different styled bottle doors produced over the years and the early machines were all red with "Ice Cold" along the bottom of the cabinet door. These machines usually has an aluminum kickplate whereas the C-51G(pictured below) lacked this. The C-51 is considered a fairly common machine of the 1950's and can be found quite readily.

Yeah, I can't get into it either. Not a real fan of fantasy pieces. Retail/Ad related is my passion.

Let's start with the obvious. The cash register is a fantasy piece, painted in coke livery to make it look cool and collectible. Coke never did that. Hell, all those classic decals are available to buy today for machine restorations, and the decal style on the side is too new to be classic.

The contour bottle set is generic collectible I wouldn't waste any money on.

And oh, those signs. Ignoring the fact that the 6 pack sign is obviously a newer reproduction, the other 2 signs are slightly older repros with manufactured patina. I can buy them online easy.

I wonder if anyone will fall for this.

So it's been a while since I made a major purchase, and I was jonesing for a fix of Coke......collecting.

I thought about sticking them on my Coke Machine, but frankly I prefer it unadorned by magnets. They will therefore go on my kitchen fridge.

I don't really like the idea of keeping them in the packet either. While they are almost 25 years old, they aren't a true collectible. I like them for what they are and how they look. So onto my fridge they will go.

Oh god, I just can't stop. It's so addictive. It had been so long since my last fix, I just had to have another.

So being of Greek background, I have kept my eyes out for a retro/vintage Greek Coke sign. While there are a few out there, they are so bloody rare that some of the prices asked are even more expensive than the equivalent sign from the U.S,, and that's not even taking into account an auction sale.

Surprisingly, I managed to score this relatively easily. Again, its a light sign from the late 80's/early 90's. I really seem to find these a lot more.

Its a largish light sign, 72cm x 51cm x 8-10 cm. The lamps are still inside, but I'm going to have to get an electrician friend to wire it up again. Since its a european sign, I wont need a transformer luckily. Even if I don't wire it up right away, still displays nicely.

The letters ' Απολαύστε ' mean Enjoy! and the letters ' Σήμα Κατατεθέν ' mean Trademarks! in English.

My latest purchase. Originally hung in a Ice-Crean & Lolly Shop called The Sweet Spot in Denmark, Western Australia. Got it direct from the owner, who got it from his Coke rep.

How big is that thing? amazing it still works!

Coke Bottle is 60cm long x 17cm wide. Stand is 65cm long x 22.5cm wide You can either hang by its chain, or use the feet to have it stand on a desk or shelf.

This is an actual shop sign, so its meant to last a lot longer than a cheap made to sell collectible light.

It’s hard to stop once you get started isn’t it lol

I can stop whenever I want. I just don't want to.
