Rockola 442 - No sound except for loud periodic popping noise

RonK

Question

Hello,

I am new to the site and to jukebox repair.

I am working on a Rockola 442, which makes no sound except for a loud popping noise that occurs every 3 seconds or so while the record is playing. The 3 second interval is, of course, much longer than the turntable revolution interval. The popping is not because of the record, and doesn't appear correlated with the turntable. The mechanics work great. No problem getting the record from, or returning the record to the magazine. The tone arm sets on the record properly and returns at the end of the record.

My guess right now is this is related to the mute relay somehow. The popping sounds like something is connecting/ disconnecting from the amp.

The machine is not at my home, so I have to go over and test my idea. I do have a service manual, which helps.

Anyway, has anyone seen this before?

Thanks,

Ron
