EM restorations (what’s coming through the Goatshed)

Recommended Posts

I’m starting this thread, similar to “What’s coming thru the Dedshed”, to update some of the EM projects/repairs that Graham does over in the Goatshed.

He gets a fair few come through from the old to the very old.

From simple repairs and going through a machine to full strip down and rebuilds.

I myself am currently doing 2 EM rebuilds so will load them in here.

Most stuff is already up on Fb, so will just port the info over to here.

Cab

Lots of worm holes and deep rotting.

But glue will seep into that and make it solid again.

Guts

Some fuktard had cut the Jones plugs. This was fun to work out with faded colours on the wiring.

So had to make up a chart from the schematics and cross check many times then solder to new plugs.

Installed a new line chord, changed the transformer over to 240v from 110v, ready to get powered up.

And some success.

I think a few plugs , sockets need tending as well as the stepper units need rebuilding.

White vinegar from coles mixed with a teaspoon of bicarb soda.

Soak for no longer than 24hrs.

Scrub with a toothbrush.

Polished on a buffer or by hand with Autosol.

Hey Edy,

Very much enjoying this journey and watching some 'impossibilities' coming to life. Very cool.

Many folk in another thread about rust removal https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/92522-Evapo-rust-How-good-is-it will be very interested and will get great help from your method. Bloody awesome results on that coin door, beautiful work and amazing results.

Love the F*ktard comment :). Have a great weekend.

(Recovered from a crashing iPad halfway through posting. May be out of order, now on with the show)

So that's most of the metals done.

Nice polished locking mech handle

So next was the playfield. This is in great original condition, just a bit dusty. No Mylar.

There are different methods many and varied often having the same results for rust removal. We in the Goat Shed find white vinegar to be very good and extremely cost effective. The secret is the polishing with both buffing wheel and lots of elbow grease. Try it in sure you will be suitably impressed.

Ok.

Odds and Evens had a few little issues.

The lights and some switches were intermittent.

Twas the Jones plug connectors, the female needed cleaning with the dremmel and then tightened.

Next it was not going into Game Over after last ball

Ended up being the motor switching off just that bit too early before the cam dropped the Game Over switch stack.

Undid the motor switch cam and adjusted back slightly, now drops the stack before cutting out the motor.

Among that there was another coil not locking in

Undid the coil screw and it works. Did back up and works. Was just some shit caught in there.

06830b19592afe38945ca28351891caf.jpg

So now most of the switches and lights work. Game over works. Scores and gameplay good.

Just need to sort out the credit button start. After we clean more coin door jones plugs.
