Faint Video On Golden Tee Cabinet

Deemar

Question

I went over to look at the cabinet yesterday and took a bunch of photos. It doesn't appear to be all original but I honestly have no idea what I'm looking at here so I was wondering if someone else might see a reason why it's not sending video. I can also confirm it is not playing any audio so there's only marquee and nothing else. Any ideas what I should be looking for here? Are some of these loose cables to blame? Someone else had unhooked them to plug them into known working parts for testing so they may just still be unplugged from that.

The marquee lights up and the top piece scrolls text properly.

The screen just has lines on it.

The whole back area.

Back of the coin box.

Is this the video cable? I'm pretty sure it still doesn't work with this plugged in.

Why is this here? There's also a telephone cable near it.

Should this be plugged in?

This is mounted right behind the screen, that piece in the top left is the back of the screen.

Well I went back there today and got some more discoveries. First I plugged in this cable to the video card:

That seemed to give me some faint video on the screen:

Moderate success but everything seems to work except for the faint video. When I hit the start buttton, the game starts and I get all the audio. I can play if I turn the lights off. So I took your advice about turning up the dial on the power supply. I turned if off and turned the dial from this:

1/8 of a turn to this:

It didn't make the video any brighter so I'm not quite sure what to do now. Should I keep turning up the power supply knob? Will it hurt something?

#1 - turn that knob back. You'll fry the game board by putting too much voltage into it. Use a multimeter and set the output of that power supply to 5.1 volts at the game board.

#2 - You will most likely need a cap kit on that monitor. It looks like you have retrace lines on it like the screen control setting on the back of the flyback (high voltage transformer) is turned WAY up. Turn that down so the diagonal retrace lines go away. Turn up the brightness and contrast controls on the monitor to try to get the picture brighter. You may need to adjust the focus control on that flyback as well. It looks like someone jacked with both of those.

I didn't realize I could just plug a computer monitor directly into the video card! So I guess this means the monitor is dead, a local shop told me they would retrofit a new LCD for $1100 CAD, any suggestions?
