Applications have now been submitted to the IFPA.

We have alot of organising to get through in the coming weeks. Getting on to Trophies, going over the machines as much as possible, working out the logistics of setting up the venue.... and very keen to set up some degree of live streaming for the event!

Do you stream?

Nope... Jumping off down the deep end!! :lol

Just thinking 3 cameras/views... so that all the arenas are covered. Nothing too complex...

Maybe a fourth that could be moved to a few arenas for an "over the shoulder" stream...

Do you have internerd with good upload speed?

I believe so... have to check with Steve on upload bandwidth/speed, but we do at least have direct ethernet connection for the Matchplay Live. It boils down to upload bandwidth as far as I understand, and I think they are NBN now... (not that NBN is going to mean good service!) :lol

Yup, upload is king. Speedtest.net from their network will give you a good idea of what you're dealing with. 2mbit up or greater is ideal.

Just checked upload speed at Bowland and it is around 1Mbps, may be a bit slow for streaming.

Thanks Steve! :023: , we'll have to see what @ajfclark thinks of that number... This is also at Noon on a Wednesday, so it may vary a little at different times... we should test it at various times of day, as well as over a weekend. :)

I guess the streaming resolution/quality chosen makes a difference as well??

That's going to be pushing it to get 480p@30fps I think. Mobile might be an option, but it's still data heavy so all day isn't going to be feasible, though finals only or something might work?

Recording an then uploading to youtube later would still work.

FYI I just done the test at my house where I am still on ADSL2:

10-12 Mbps download

0.9 Mbps upload

Not exactly a glowing report for NBN. The Bowl is on NBN. My plase is still on the old ADSL and my download is actually higher, and upload barely 0.1Mbps lower...

Depends what plan they are on. I pay a few bucks extra a month for 50 down 20 up.

I'm on a budget plan as well though... lol
The lowest tier is 12/1, so worse than what you can get out of ADSL 2+. The next is 25/8 or so, about the maximum of ADSL 2+. Above that is 50/20 then 100/40.

I pay a few bucks extra a month for 50 down 20 up because I do a lot of my work from home. As a bonus, I have bandwidth to spare to stream.

As a network engineer the cluster vuk the Liberals made on the NBN frustrates the hell out of me.

Fun event "Heads Up" Friday Afternoon: Here's what I have in mind, been working on.

For up to about 32 players, 3 Rounds, each player 4 matches per round; one game played on each of all four machines (two pairs), same opponent for all four games. Goal set for each Arena (pair of games) at the start of each new round.

Even number of players required (or a bye).

To start each round players are divided into two random groups, in a random order. They are "Group A" and "Group B". The groups and the order remain the same throughout each round. The "Goal" remains the same for each arena (pair of games) throughout each round.

So if we have two arenas (two pairs of games), and 32 players, 16 pairs will play 16 matches on Arena 1 one after another, and then another 16 games are played on Arena 2. Straight after the first pair completes their first match on Arena 1 they move straight to Arena 2 and play that match. I figure about 12 games of overlap, so the duration of this Half Round would take the time of about 20 matches (since alot of the time both arenas will be running together).

Each pair of machines in an Arena are labeled "A" and "B", for the second half of the round these are swapped. This means every player will play each machine once and evenly challenge the same player on both Machines and Arenas with the same Goal.

So each round will take around 40 matches worth of time as an estimate, and average match times of 2minutes from the seems of Heads up we have been playing. 2 minutes is actually very generous I think Lol .... it depends on the Goal that is set. So that is around 1hr 20 min per round.

If a player drains their three balls the standing opponent wins.

More players mean less rounds, less players more rounds. More players could use a third Arena (pair of machines) but play two rounds using only two sets of goals. Less players means a greater variety of goals over more rounds, and wider variety of opponents.

There's a bit more, but that's a bit of a plan to work on... :)

I did a few tests for you this afternoon, game audio was a bit low throughout maybe.

720@60fps 2000kbps video, 160kbps audio: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298334461 <- This is what I usually stream at...

720@60fps 1500kbps video, 160kbps audio:https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298335696

720@60fps 1000kbps video, 160kbps audio: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298336574 <- starting to get pixelated at times

720@30fps 1000kbps video, 160kbps audio: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298337184 <- Ok

-- below here we're getting toto the realm of things we can push over a 1mbit link --

720@30fps 750kbps video, 160kbps audio: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298337680 <- Ok, busy scenes pixelate a bit

720@30fps 750kbps video, 96kbps audio: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298339168 <- Same as above, but slightly lower bandwidth needed

720@30fps 500kbps video, 96kbps audio: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298339899 <- Look pretty crappy

480@30fps 500kbps video, 96kbps audio: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298340797 <- Low res, but actually looks ok

Only just got a chance to have a good look at those test streams mate... what a Radical game! :D

That last one the LowRes looks perfectly adequate for what we want to do I rekon ? ... Great stuff anyhow! :023:

Cheers!

Put up a few flyers in the last couple of weeks... seems someone from ABC Radio SA north & west seen one of them, as I was roped into a recorded interview this afternoon about this event, and pinball generally. Airs tomorrow morning between 8am and 10am 639ABC regional radio. Probably again early Saturday morning with Ian Harslett on the weekend sports roundup... Lol
