8 games in 8 weeks have now passed and the challenge to compete in MGLXXXVI has now come to a close.

The final standings are below:

CONGRATULATIONS to the 45 competitors who battled it out over the many games of MGLXXXVI. Whether you played all of the games or just some of the games, that’s OK. The games weren’t easy and there was plenty of competition and learning to do, especially when 4 games were the first time ever played in the MGL. These games were The Speed Rumbler, Future Spy, Spatter and Polaris.

JustAnotherRat, baldbull, Brad, bondy, Derek and bensweeneyonbass all posted scores for 3 or less games … and that’s fine. Everyone is welcome to game as many and whatever games they wish. There were some very good scores in those submissions as well.

Of the gamers who gamed 0.5 or more games …

Lasse.Lo played in their 1st MGL and finished in 39th place. That’s a good start for a novice on these tough arcade games. They played 4 games and 4 more would have improved their score substantially.

QAOP Spaceman dropped in to post several good scores, with his best in Crazy Kong of 559,000 points and 6th place in Game 3. Playing 4 games, he finished overall in 38th place in his 3rd MGL.

Patrick Stanley played 4 games with his best of 248,280 points and 5th place on Jumping Jack. This was a great score that would have taken 2nd place on the TG scoreboard before the tournament began. His next best was 199,390 points and 6th place in Mario Bros. This gamer can really play great and another 4 games played would have put him near the top. He finished in 37th place in his 3rd MGL.

Duaber played in his 2nd MGL and after 3 games he was the leader! He posted terrific scores on Mario Bros to take 1st place with 513,660 points, 5th place on Crazy Kong with 569,500 points and 8th place on The Speed Rumbler with 148,100 points. Playing 4 games he finished in 36th place.

Dick Moreland played in his 5th MGL and scored his best on Crazy Kong with 322,800 points and 17th place on this game. Playing 5 games he finished in overall 35th place.

Derek Broadfoot played 6 games to finish in overall 34th place. His best score was 14th place on Jumping Jack with 137,220 points. Derek has now played in over 29 consecutive MGL tournaments, which is an amazing and outstanding achievement. No matter how easy or hard the games are, or who plays in the MGL, this guy is a great example of a gamer who welcomes all challenges and plays for fun. Fantastic!

Andrew Barrow at the halfway point in MGLXXXVI was in 5th place overall after 4 games, just 12 points away from the lead. He scored best by winning Crazy Kong with an outstanding score of 629,400 points and 2nd place on Mario Bros with a great 284,800 points. Playing 5 games he finished in overall 33rd place.

Bob Johnson played in his 9th consecutive MGL to take out 32nd place overall. His best score was on Spatter with 124,450 points and 20th place. Playing 7 of the 8 games he continues to improve his gaming skills.

Erik.Wiman played in his 2nd MGL and scored his best on Future Spy, Mr Do!’s Castle and Spatter. Averaging 69.6 points per game, he finished in 29th place, an improvement on his debut of 38th place in MGLXXXV.

Hervé Petit-Jean played steady again in all games to finish in 28th place. His best scores were on Polaris and Mario Bros. Playing in his 8th consecutive MGL, he averaged 70.0 points per game for a total score of 560 points. Well gamed.

Homar averaged 71.5 points per game and scored his best on Spatter with 100,370 points and 27th place. Playing in his 2nd MGL, he improves on his 34th placing in MGLXXXV with 27th place overall.

CrazyKongFan played 7 out of 8 games to finish in 26th place overall. And his best game? … yes you guessed it … Crazy Kong, with a mighty 591,000 points and 3rd place in that game. He has nominated this game often, but not this time, and now it was drawn as other gamers nominated the game. Congratulations also to CrazyKongFan on his 13th consecutive MGL, obviously not unlucky for some. Well done.

thejudge played well in all games to finish in 25th place. His best score was on Future Spy with 62,200 points and 18th place. Averaging 72.4 points per game he completed his 9th consecutive MGL … great stuff!

He hit the POW for great gaming, nicely done.

Alex Bishop played late each game and still recorded some great results. His best game score was on Future Spy with 82,950 points and 9th place. Overall he finished in 19th place with an average of 78.5 per game for a total of 628 points in his 9th consecutive MGL …outstanding!

His best score was a very good 445,400 points on Crazy Kong for 11th place. He played in his 7th consecutive MGL and I also wanted to thank him for posting the WolfMAME ROM versions for the games.

Pierre Massey holidayed and gamed at the same time to finish in overall 17th place. Still posting hilarious animated gifs, he best scored in Polaris while he was at Fort Napoleon, with 30,170 points and 10th place. He played in his 7th consecutive MGL and just won his latest placing with a hard fought head to head game count win.

In only his 2nd MGL, he improved on his previous MGLXXXV finish of 13th place by one placing and is heading in the right direction. Expertly gamed.

Stephen Krogman scored his best on The Speed Rumbler with 158,300 points and Mr Do!’s Castle with 74,480 points for 6th place in both games. Scoring 694 points he only missed the Top 10 by 3 points. Gaming in his 7th MGL, he equaled his placing in MGLXXXV in this MGL with 11th place also.

Robert Macauley gamed for a total of 697 points over the 8 games to finish in the prestigious Top 10 with 10th place overall. He scored his best on Mr Do!’s Castle with 64,320 points and Spatter with 491,160 points for 8th place in both games. With a game average of 87.8, this gamer plays great and is another talent to watch.

bigredbird played extremely well in all games to finish in 8th place overall. He aced Mr Do!’s Castle on the last day when it mattered, after a gamer overtook his high score late in the game play. He scored 181,580 points to win Game 6 and his next best games with 10th place in each were The Speed Rumbler and Mario Bros. Playing in his 12th MGL, this guy continues to be a top contender.

His best game was on The Speed Rumbler with 485,100 points for 2nd place. His biggest challenges were on Crazy Kong and Mr Do!’s Castle. Playing only in his 4th MGL with consecutive placings of 16th, 24th, 2nd and 6th … that’s great gaming and competition.

His best game was Polaris with a very strong score of 55,490 points for 3rd place and his biggest challenge was Crazy Kong. Winning the head to head count was a major achievement and he missed out on 3rd place by only 2 points (1 point was not enough on head to head total game scores with equal head to head game win count).

Darren McGahey played in his 1st MGL as a rookie and played like a master. He started steady and finished very strongly with placings of 13th, 15th, 4th, 7th, 2nd, 4th, 3rd and 8th. I hope you all enjoyed the competition and each others company in the MGL. It came down to the last game, last day and last hours to finalize the final placings which was very exciting. As everyone is welcome to game, whether newbie, novice, expert or pro, this tournament is for the gamers to enjoy. Without you there would be no competition. And the next MGL will be starting very soon. Stay safe and get ready!

Another fine event. Surprisingly enough, there were several games I've never played before so learning them for the first time was a bit challenging. I could have squeezed in a few more games of Polaris and may have locked in a #10 position, but I was tired and went to sleep. The following morning I checked the leaderboard and saw I had slipped into 11th. In the bigger scope of things, it's all about the fun factor regardless of what position I place in. As always, I was glad to be a part of it. Well done Paul! Looking forward to yet another MGL tournament in the coming weeks. Good job to everyone who participated.

Congratulations to Dalar and TIF for their epic performances - what a colossal, close contest.

Big thanks to OOO; I appreciate your work and diligent efforts in presenting and organising this tournament. It's been tremendous fun to be a part of it. The friendly encouraging atmsophere here at AA also helps greatly in this regard. Many nights and I hear myself uttering "ahh, just one more game..." ;)_

Whilst one cannot totally discount nostalgia playing a key part in the enjoyment, the discovery of previously unplayed "new games" and learning them has created an entirely new kind of gaming experience for me over the two MGL's I've played. (Loved Speed Rumbler, Jumping Jack, Polaris, Spatter...all completely new experiences for me..)

Definitely looking forward to the next MGL! :)
