Moving really heavy machines? Specifically, vending machines..

Recommended Posts

Hey, So typically I work with arcade machines, vending machines tend to be a fair bit heavier.

I've got a MARS branded Vendo machine I'd like to site, but at 300kg, I can't see a way to move this along a tile hallway and into position.

Getting it into and out of the trailer isn't such a big deal, 1-2 people can tip and lower it either way without a problem, but this thing isn't on wheels, and barely moves when pushed on ideal flat concrete. I can't skull-drag this thing along or scratch the ground, and I can't imagine a trolley that would let me tip and pull that much weight, so I'm curious, what do you guys use to site and de-site things when they get to this level of weight?

I know of pinball trolleys, but again, can't see that being a practical solution for both the weight and also the act of actually moving the machine.

A pallet jack.

Nice and easy, just slides under the machine, lifts it up and easily move it. You'd be surprised how uneven the ground can be and you can still pull it without too much effort. I'd recommend getting a truck with a tail gate lifter if you're considering moving more large things like that quite often.

a simple pallet jack will move it

I've got a pallet jack, but it has metal wheels, and I'm concerned that those on the tiles in this location might be an issue.

The dolly idea sounds interesting tho.

Is this something like what you meant @vintage?

or even this one:

that's 700kg.

Yeah,I would have said pallet jack but due to the tiled floor it's risky.

We used those dollys in the exhibition industry for much heavier stuff than 300kg with no issues

don't waist your time with the bunnings crap - good for workshops and moving small items but not heavy machines into a site

get a nylon wheel pallet jack or one of these 20171210_150526_resized.thumb.jpg.e09e27cd06e0d53be1f3c96032f12547.jpg

or simply pay someone that has the tools to move heavy machines , if it was in Vic i could have done it for ya

What's that last thing there called/where do they sell those?

I don't think I'll buy anything from bunnings, just the first one that came up searching for it.

The way I move mine these days, is I pay some bloke with a tail gate lift to pick it up and drop it off, those guys usually have the expensive electric removalist trolley's that will pick it up and drop straight into place, with out any backs being broken.

I once moved my dixie Narco 440 and that was the end of it. never again and I just now get a bloke with a truck and the right equipment todo it for me.

Its the best $100 you can spend lol.

My rule is, If I cant comfortably carry the machine with two people on and off my Ute, I call some one up todo it and I later show up to fill the machine.

There is an electric trolley that I have considered buying many times where it can pick the machine up, move it out of a shop, back up to a ute or trailer and then lift itself and the machine onto the ute tray. But It was $10k for that machine the last time I checked, which I couldn't justify

Hmmm good points all round there. Is there specific services you look for to find someone to transport it? Like is it just a removalist? Or specialised services?

Truckit.net or Uship.com

I post an add and ask for a shipper who can do it. Mention what your moving, how you want it moved and leave it upto the transport company to do the job. Usually removalists tend to reply.

The is a Vending transporter guy in Brisbane I recently used who picked up a FAS vending machine from the seller and then he Dropped it straight off to the new site and put it into place for me. that cost me about $90 from Brisbane to the Sunshine coast off memory.

I will be using him again in the future.

Prior to that I Just asked around on truckit. Im done moving these things around, the big machines are to heavy to lift into my ute with out that Lift I said earlier.

I hear you , nearly broke my back collecting an empty one gifted to me and there were 3 of us. Never again, once I got it off the ute it went straight on ebay at 99cents starting bid. A smart buyer then slid it onto a pallet with some help and wheeled it over to his tailgate truck. Never again. But I would like a vendo 44 replica hint hint

Why not just put lockable heavy duty wheels on the MARS vendor machine and wheel it in.

Ive had to remove Lockable wheels on vending machines before..

Pricks kept moving the fridge to get to the power plug to charge their phones, lol. thats the number one reason believe it or not.

One group of teens pushed the fridge on its wheels to get to the phone charger, I looked at my cameras to see who it was and while Looking I saw them as they were moving it the they almost tipped it On them selves. which would have really hurt them badly or even killed them, they were lucky it didnt tip as it got to a really bad angle lol, would have been their fault but I could have been in some serious trouble if it did tip.

Mind you the many times It was moved not once did they ever push back or plug it back in so lost me money also.

The wheels were removed after that. havent had it moved since as its to heavy to slide.

I really hate Humanity some times.

If it is in a Supervised area then Yer the wheels would be an option. but in saying that People used to move My coke fridge in my burger shop to charge their phones, they would look directly at me while doing it. lol never asked, So I took the wheels off them also.

It is unbelievable how the general public act these days, you need to think of every little thing and when you think you have thought of it all to try and keep them safe from them selves they think of something new and even dumber to put them selves at risk or damage your property.

If adding wheels, it would be best to add new holes for the wheels and keep the levellers there... you now have what a lot of large moving arcade games have..... to move the machine you screw the levellers up so that the machine now sits on the wheels and can be wheeled around, once in place you then screw the levellers down so that the machine is now sitting on the leg levellers instead of the wheels.

Good point. I actually like this idea, improves the machine and doesn't need new tools, not a bad idea.

Thanks heaps guys for everything. I've bookmarked those truck it sites too for future reference. :)
