    Williams FLASH Pinball Project

Wow i purchased this pinball back in 2016 and stripped into parts and packed it up
Time goes so quickly and last night i carried it out of the garage into pin room ..
the major problem is that parts are in various boxes..
    pics are as puchased..

This one is going to take some time to get it up and running
deadline is April 2019 wildball meet ..
so there is no pressure ..

Cool, a Flash. Most died through a very hard life. They made shitloads of cash in there day and would have made a lot more if the targets would work reliably and for extended periods of time..

You may be interested in this mod for those targets ...

When I did that mod I was thinking of Flash and Time Warp machines mainly although they failed on all the Williams machines.

    Looks nice @pinofski .

Donít know why Flash doesnít get more love. 8 drop targets, spinner, upper Flipper and repeatable loop shot, lane shot and saucer. Fantastic flow. One of Ritchieís first and a layout he repeated pretty much his entire career - Star Wars, Rollergames, Getaway, AC/DC, Spiderman, Star Trek.

All I can think is they made so many (almost 20000!!!!) that it doesnít have the snob collector factor like Fathom, EBD etc. But thereís a reason they sold so many - itís a great game.

Ok, the art isnít crash hit compared to some from that era.

Well worth saving I think as there aren't that many about. Like I said, they were driven in the ground and playfield paint is usually the cost.

Because there were so many made, people simply got sick of playing them. They literally were everywhere.

The left outlane was brutal for some reason and you sort of got sick of that being the way you lost 3 out of 4 balls.

Doing a great job so far, stripping is tedious but has to be done

Searching through some pics at the time i got this
I spent the friday afternoon to the early saturday morning stripping the playfield of parts
This is a common playfield wear as flipper rubing on playfield
    Flash 1.jpg
as every one knows art work is not the best
this is a classic pic with very little ball swirl
    Flash 2.jpg
middle of the playfield is in good condition ..
    Flash 4 (3).jpg
and even the spinier has little wear
    Flash 5.jpg
overall this pin is in great condition for a sited pin back in the day..

That part on the playfield suffers from flipper wear because the ball is constantly hitting the end of that flipper and on those flipper mechs, the flipper shaft bushing is screwed directly to the wood of the playfield, not into a dedicated flipper mounting bracket like used from FirePower on.

These constant impacts from the ball either broke these screws, broke the bushing or bend the flipper shaft.

Usually it was the bushings that broke and that allowed the flipper to scrap on the playfield. This was extremely common on Flash.

I'd swap out those old mechs and put in the far superior later style mounting plates and use FirePower flipper coils but this will require being creative with the playfield lights in the way.

Other things Flash suffered from are these posts circled in red in this picture. Either from hits of the upper flipper or the plunger shots, these posts were never thick enough and would bend or snap regularly. Larger gauge later model parts is an easy fix.
