LAI- OUTRUNNERS cab

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, We are about to start restoring our newly acquired LAI Sega Outrunners cab. I will take some more pics tomorrow of ours and the specific parts that need attention , but I would love to see pics of other members Outrunners cabs. It's always good to see pics as a reference. Re side art, seats , steering wheels etc. etc. LAI always seemed to do things a little different and we would like to keep it as original as possible. If anyone has any parts for an Outrunners cab please let me know. thanks in advance.:)

I have some bits for it including some PCB layers and LCD display you can have for the cost of postage.

Wow @Kaizen, thanks for the pics and links . The cab looks amazing with the nose cone and rear seat detail. Doubt I will ever find those bits. Thanks for the offer of parts. Just pm with an amount and the best way to pay you. Maybe I can get @MamePatrol to come up with the side art. Or if anyone has the ability to draw it up. I have no skills in this area. thanks again

I managed to do some work on the Outrunners. :) I used fibreglass to strengthen the cracks in the marquee, then painted it . The first 2 pics are before .

Now to tackle those busted up control panels !

A little more progress on the Outrunners. The control panels were fibre glassed, filled with body filler, primed and top coated. I am really pleased with the results. Probably stronger now than the original . I cleaned all the gauges and managed to get all the lights and radio sceens working.

Tackled the steering wheel this morning. As you can see in the pics it was in a bad state. I made a custom cover in real leather, then hand sewed it on.

Hi @Ponty, I use the Rust-oleum spray cans. I always sand the whole plastic panels whether they are primed or not as they need a good surface to adhere to and after 25 yrs of abuse will have in ground dirt etc. I am also a big fan of tack cloths. No matter how hard you try only tack cloths really prepare the surface for a lint free paint surface . Over the years I have painted a Blast City cab and various others with great results. Hope this helps

Hi Ray @oldbyte Any more updates and pics at all? It has been great to read through this thread so far and see how much you have done and how much better this machine now looks.

Hi @micky, thanks for your post. I haven't had a chance to do a lot more. Work has been really busy. Don't you hate it when work gets in the way of more fun things. Hopefully I will get back into it shortly.

Hi @Boots I am an upholsterer by trade so I guess that helps. I used scrap leather to sew up the wheel covers. This video is the method I used.

If you have a wheel to do , I can sew up a cover for you. All I need is the exact size around the wheel and the width. Happy to do it no charge for you. (not sure if I attached the link right)
