Big thanks to Leigh and Family, Eddy and Dan. Also a big thanks to all the other people that made this happen. Got back last night and told wife i played at least 10 machines that i want to add to my collection and she was so happy about that. I think @Hashman may have a rival of pinball party guy as @newy16216 lasted all the way without sleep great effort mate.

Great catching up with all the crew from previous meets and meeting so many more pinheads great stuff. Had no idea a comp was running lol. @sleazius would attend something like this every year thanks again for making it happen.

Funny watching people struggling with their tents while my 30 second tent took 30 seconds hahahaha

Huge shout out to Leigh, Dan, Edy and all the unsung heroes that helped out to put on this amazing meet .

The location, plethora of games old, new and literally just unboxed on site, great people and 2am (or 3am or 4am, I’m a tad fuzzy on the timeline ha!) kranskies and yummy marinated meat was amazing and everything past attendees raved about, one for the ages :D

Spent all day yesterday having the worlds longest Nanna nap and just about to get on the big silver bird back home, see youse all in another 6 or so years!

Firstly, a big thank you to all of you who made the effort to turn up to our event and make it an awesome night of fun and socialising amongst fellow Aussie Arcades. It truly was a memorable occasion that we won't forget any time soon.

Everyone was so relaxed and sincere throughout the event. It ran so smoothly and, as already mentioned, there were plenty of people eager to help wherever it was needed. To all of you thank you for assisting when asked and the manner in which is was delivered.

A special thank you to Mark @toads and Allison @Fairground for going around and cleaning all the playfield glass the night before. Also, taking on some extra tasks when they popped up. Awesome effort. :023:

To Mark @skids for assisting with the cooking and making sure we had enough food covered for the event. Great work. :023: Also, Michael aka @MGM who helped with breakfast.

To Dave @furballx a massive thank you for putting up with me over the last few months while helping get this massive event ready. It truly is appreciated the effort you always go to, to help and offer your advice and assistance. Helping me mark out the line up, I know was painful, but appreciated that you put up with my attention to detail. It made it easy for Edy and I to tweak the line up later. Massive thank you for lending us your Iron Maiden LE for all to enjoy. :023:

To Michael @mickleh another truly genuine guy who will always help no questions asked. Another person who we treasure as a good friend. Massive thank you for lending us both your Iron Maiden LE and Dialled In for all to enjoy. :023:

To Edy @Dedrok what another massive effort these past few weeks getting these games checked, worked on and tweaked to ensure we minimised machine break downs. Your attention to detail, persistence and knowledge is truly an asset that both Leigh and I are grateful for and admire. We are so fortunate to have a good friend as you as part of the team.

Now Leigh @sleazius there isn't much I could say that can really put into words how much I love this guy. He is a true friend who has a heart of gold. The many years I have known him, he has not only shared my passion for pinball, but put up with my crazy antics. With his collection and my collection complimenting each others, we are able to put on an event that truly is world class. There are games here that most people will never have the chance to see, let alone play anywhere else. There are games I will occasionally pull out which you won't ever see again in your lifetime. With his help, we are able to make it possible. A big thank you to his wife Jen who, without her support, it would not be possible for us to do this and I am truly grateful for her to open up their barn and paddocks and allow us all the chance to enjoy our hobby amongst like minded people.

I was so happy to catch up again with John @EM Addict and Stephen from Albury/Wodonga, Tony @illawarra_steelers, Jeff @Railways and Mark, Ken @Skybeaux, Mike@mikie, John @Johns-Arcade, Michael @Cursed and Moyra, Dave @Hashman and Ray and so many other good friends who help make it such a wonderful event.

Meeting Con and Sue and hearing their stories was cool. I admired watching Brett and his son Kosta playing all weekend was truly amazing to see father and son having a blast. Meeting Steve @Autosteve and introducing him to so many guys where he could share his history in the industry, something that had given us all so much pleasure growing up and now sharing our passion. There are many more I would like to mention but will stop here.

Thank you also to Michael Shalhoub for turning up as well. Another very close friend who, without his support and genuine friendship, I would not have the collection I have today to share with you all.

Lastly, thank you again to all of you who were able to share this most memorable night of playing pinball and socialising. Everyone was so well behaved and the vibe was truly electrifying. :023:

I can’t remember who won the Comp, but congrats. We had a great time. Wazza

It wasn't me I was sleeping by then.

Thanks to Leigh for opening up the barn and everyone involved in getting the meet up and running. Unfortunately I went way too hard too early and paid the price in spades :redface

Yeah, wasn't that funny Warwick @Defender? Rob was leading and we had to go find him and found him fast asleep. Great job Luke @LCM for running the comp. :023:

I'm so glad many of the comp players didn't manage to make the event so it went really quick.

Absolutely no memory of that. Last thing I remember was getting out of a chair near the fire, staggering towards the barn, almost falling and deciding the passenger seat of the car was the best place for me for a while.

Too many beers in too little time + not enough food beforehand = Rob making a twat of himself again. A week of night shift probably didn't help but I'm not using that as an excuse. I should know better by now. :(

Might need to join the other AA as well if this happens too much more

Just wanted to say what an awesome meet yet again and a big thanks to Dan @Fair Dinkum Dan, @sleazius, @Dedrock, @furballx and any others who helped out with organising and running the meet.

Big thanks also to Dave @zanderzone for picking up a pin for me at Tuncurry.

Loved the Iron Maiden pins.

I would guess there would be a few that would have had "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden stuck in their head after the meet, but that's not a bad thing.

No need for any music outside when you could Iron Maiden clearly while standing around the fire.

Was great to get play it, definitely didn't get much downtime.Would have done well if it was taking $2.00 a game. You can see why it's being regarded as one of Stern's best pins already.

Also great to play so many rare ss games, and the great range of DMS and other Sterns and Dan we did play a couple Ems ( Ski jump was very cool).

As always it's good to catch up with others you meet from previous meets, and sometimes you run into people you havn't seen for years.

Saw a couple of guys I knew from the early 90s when pinball collecting was just getting to be a hobby here, one who was one of the big collectors in those days in Melbourne, who still owns almost all the machines he had all those years ago.

Amazing how people seem to get into this hobby and are still into it after many years.

Looking forward to the next one, whenever that might be.

The Barn 2018 - 25th August

After a 22 hr recovery sleep

The loan pins have been returned thanks to @Fair Dinkum Dan.

Maiden #1 on loan from @furballx

thanks for all the pre work, moving in machines with Dan, shed work with Dan and Michael, and all the scrap metal, dump and wood runs as well as chopping up the wood .... and especially cow pat duty Friday.

Maiden #2 + Dialed In on loan from @mickleh

thanks for all the shed work, clean ups, machine moves etc over the last couple months and day after. You never left the circle of trust.

Dan, thanks for putting out so many rare machines from your collection. It’s always great to play such rare games. I love that Algar, Gorgars fatter uglier half brother.

Was some fun long nights together getting this all sorted.

Is a great privilege having both you and Leigh as mates letting me be part of such a great collection of machines.

@sleazius and Jen

Thanks for opening up the barn and property for us and so many likeminded pinheads to over run for the weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed every minute, leading up to (bar those few early Saturday hours) , during and after the event.

Such a privilege having mates like you in the hobby that enable me to be part of something so big.

Thank you

Mark @toads and Alison @Fairground for the play testing that helped me find a few gremlins on Friday night.

Thanks @kim for the help before, during and after the event.

Enjoy Melbourne, play maiden better and see you next Pincade I hope.

Thanks to those that all helped in anyway and sorry to anyone that encountered me early Saturday morning just before starting. I don’t do mornings, people before 1pm or any organisation, but was suddenly lumped with all 3.

Post meet

Wildlife was out and about this afternoon when I got up. Roo central

4b38b549d68ec7505f67ed1d777d06af.jpg

Most machines held up well, except for a few little niggling issues that we knew about or that we thought might happen.

Most stuff was stuck balls so my tools for the night consist of a retractable magnet and key.

Thanks to Dave @zanderzone for doing the earlier work as I just couldn’t be arsed by then.

So tonight I did a quick play though and only 20% of games needing attention, mostly flipper return springs.

Hope to have another night of rest before heading home for the rest of the year.

My thanks goes out too @sleazius

Leigh, the amount of effort you put in was well over the top.

Bringing the pinball community together for a social bash to celebrate your birthday just shows the amount of dedication you have to this hobby.

I'd also like to pass on a thank you to your wife and kids, for letting us steal many hours of Your time.

@Fair Dinkum Dan

Dan, you put everything you've got into this, as you always do.

Breakfast God, Sunday morning:)

You are such a great credit to the pinball community.

Now please get that leg looked after.

@Dedrok

Edy, man your another one that puts in the hours, not just at the barn, but everywhere.

It's been a pleasure getting to know you.

Looking forward to you moving down to Victoria down the track:)

@furballx

Dave(Common name I hear) one of the backbones of the event.

Someone had to shovel the cow shit from the front paddock entrance leading up to the event, yep, Dave's job.

Shit job, but someone has to do it:)

That's just one of the heaps of jobs that Dave is capable of doing, and does very well.

Busted his arse to help out.

Huge effort Dave.

And he said unto me....

The mateship these four blokes have is great.

All from a common interest, pinball.

Thanks also to the guys in the background as well.

Also thank to the Rain gods as well.

The weather held off just long enough for the event.

It was also great to catch up with all my mates from Melbourne, as it was to catch up with a few interstate friends I don't get to see very often.

I got to meet some more fantastic people in the hobby as well.

That's what it's all about.

The best event I've been to since expo!

I'll post some pics later.

I would like to echo the words of everyone else and callout a huge thank you to @sleazius and @Fair Dinkum Dan for putting on this huge event - Happy 40th Leigh :birthday2: Also the efforts of @Dedrok (legend!!) as well as @furballx and @mickleh for their Irons Maidens and everyone that helped make this meet such a wonderful experience.

Kosta and I had a fantastic time playing all the oldies - Black Hole and Paragon bringing back fond memories for me, I just love the sounds of Defender and enjoyed trying out games like Blackwater and Escape from the Lost World. I made an effort to play all the older games and managed to put a few games on pretty well all the pins but the DMDs in the back row, what a stunning line up of machines. Also got to catch up with some northeners and a few of the Vic regulars, as well as meeting some new people - just wish I had more time to say hello as recognising all the AA name tags blew my mind ...

Thanks again

Cheers

Brett

Just saw my post ... that's one bloody loud birthday emoji LOL

@Dedrok

Sweet, looks like you spent all your time fixing pinballs and now your send button on your phone appears to be stuck. You post has appeared 4 times now and growing.

All jokes aside, I admire your work. Your machines stood up to probably 6 months worth of work all in a 2 day period and I base that figure on how many machines developed flipper return spring problems, ( you usually get about 6 months out of them on site).

Your machines, and I say yours as in you serviced them, ran excellent I thought. I found none with weak flippers and everything appeared to be working quite satisfactorily. Most a lot better than they did on site when they were earning the owners money.

It was one of my highlights of the night talking to a fellow tech and sharing your wealth of knowledge.

Well done sir, you did an awesome job.

P.S....You blow the comment about Algar.......

"Algar was the fat mute brother of Gorgar"....

Fat because it is a wide body and mute because it has no speech board.

The Barn 2018 - 25th August

Like someone else said before, can’t believe so many AA names were there and only got to talk to a few of them.

Really should be a monthly event...ha ha... :run_emoji:

A big thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend. I was shocked by how many people camped out - it was great to see. Really made me feel like we should attempt to do it more often than we have. Obviously its a huge undertaking to get something like this off the ground, which is why it has only happened twice and 6 years apart at that.

Thanks everyone for the birthday gifts! I've got enough bourbon to keep me going till 2028 :) Thanks Jeff & Mark @Railways for your gift, and also Mark @toads and Allison @Fairground for their amazing gift which will take pride of place downstairs in the batcave! Marcus / Mark @No Ball Save also gave me two cans of Plunger Pale Ale which I've never seen before, and @Noob-A-Tron handed me a Trooper Beer which will sit next to Maiden when I eventually buy it. I got a couple of very nice small batch bottles as well!

This event was a massive undertaking. What most people don't realise is that before the boys even started cleaning the shed, they had to build the storage to house the projects and games that could no longer be stored there. This was approx 8 weeks of weekends before they could even start cleaning the shed out.

Dave - @furballx

Michael - @mickleh

Both donated their weekends to help Dan @Fair Dinkum Dan get a storage space ready. So 2 months in, and the shed still looked like this:

barn.jpg

What you see here is 6 years of accumulated projects, pinball parts, and just general junk. It was then another approximately 6 weeks to clean it out. Followed by 4-5 weeks of setup. @furballx and @Fair Dinkum Dan also moved approximately 45 games out of the batcave/garage up to the shed whilst I was overseas, and there was countless movement of games back and forth between different storage areas and the shed, as everything had to be removed from the shed in order to properly clean it, and games came and went as Edy decided there was too much effort to get them going.

When @Dedrok took over there was only 3 weeks to go. That means he had to go through 80 games in 3 weeks - not a small ask. With 14 days to go, 28 colour DMDs showed up which he had to install. With 7 days to go, Dan brought down 15 System 80s and System 1s most of which were in need of serious work. There wasn't enough time to bullet proof them, but @Dedrok worked some magic to get some of the old girls going.

@furballx found muscles he forgot he had chopping up wood, and there was serious yard work to do in order to get the area in front of the shed safe which he pretty much took on solo.

The icing on the cake was @mickleh lending his Dialed In and Iron Maiden for the event, and @furballx for also lending his Iron Maiden.

During the event lots of people stuck their hand up and I won't be able to do this justice but these are some of the ones I remember:

- Mark @toads and Allison @Fairground for coming over the night before and cleaning glass, offering to help

- Mark @skids for grabbing all the goods for a bbq and then cooking it.

- Nate @Audioenslaved for doing a full night of play testing finding faults for us in the lead up to the event

- Steve @Autosteve for offering a full load of firewood (for the record we burnt less than half what we had!)

- Warwick @Defender for helping clean up the day after, and cooking a bbq

- Brett @Manny65 for also pitching in at the end

There were tonnes of people who pitched in doing little things, it was really great to see.

The fire got a great work out, I was loving the fact that there were so many of us planted in front of the fire all night. I talked great volumes of rubbish with lots of people, and the queen of shots Moyra and Michael @Cursed kept me absolutely plastered the entire night.

Hung out with lots of people I hadn't seen for years, so much so that almost noone recognized me at first sight (I had long hair once upon a time). It was great to catch up with friends old and new. I'm terrible with names, and was totally plastered so if you were meeting me for the first time, give me some leeway :lol

I'd also like to thank the log for not killing me, although it came very close.

To Furbs, Michael and Edy, I can't thank you guys enough for the effort you put in to make these things a reality. Meets are hard. Large meets doubly so. Everything is a time sink with a really big meet, and its barely something a team of people can manage, let alone 1 or 2. You guys have been there helping Dan and me pull off some fairly audacious events over the years, and none of it would have been possible without your help. You're also great mates, and a joy to be around. I'm extremely lucky in my life to have met and made great friends not only through AA, but also our great hobby!

To Dan - I keep waiting for the day he gets sick of my crazy pinball ideas but so far I haven't found his 'no' point. Dan is the backbone of any of our meets. Always busts his arse to make them as good as he possibly can. Goes out of his way for so many people in our hobby. His glass is always half full. I'm very lucky to have become close mates with Dan over the last several years, none of what we do could be possible without his involvement. He has always been there to make my pinball dreams a reality (thankfully 99/100 times our pinball dreams are aligned!). Thanks Dan for being such a good friend to me and my family, I can't thank you enough.

So what now? Who knows - but I know this: Edy needs a break; Dan needs a break; Dave needs a break; Michael needs a break; But my mind is racing with possibilities.

And he said unto me.... :lol

The Trooper Beer was from me mate it would make a nice topper on the Maiden pin you need to add to your collection.

Its already downstairs in the batcave - thanks for that!

I snuck in a sneaky game or 3 on Maiden this arvo. Has to be the best Stern in the last 10 years. It will be joining the gamesroom in the not too distant future, theme be buggered.

I did name tags today, I reckon 30% of the blokes who are coming are named Dave.

Haha, I'm glad you confirmed the preponderance of Daves! I started to get nervous when I showed up and met three Daves in a row, I thought it was some kind of in-joke, or maybe I'd just had a stroke.

I even saw at least one guy in a "Dave's Arcade" T-Shirt who wasn't named Dave. So even the non-Daves were Daves...

On the bright side I'm terrible with names so it was very helpful to me that one name covered so many attendees.

Wow! What a fantastic weekend. Thank you so much Leigh @sleazius You are a very generous and gracious host. Dan @Fair Dinkum Dan you were so pretty in pink and it was a pleasure helping out where I could. Thanks for the cleaning tips. I hope your knee is feeling better. Edy @Dedrok thanks for entrusting me to 'testing' pinnies Friday night, I really enjoyed that job :)

It was lovely catching up with my beautiful shot club friends and getting big hugs from Jeff @Railways and Dave @furballx and Tony @illawarra_steelers and finally getting to chat with Naomi whom I have admired from afar. They are just a few of wonderful people I caught up and joined enjoying in celebrating Leigh's 40th.

I was chatting with @toads on the drive back home and he 'said unto me' how privileged we were to play such a splendid selection of pinnies! Memorable to say the least.

I know

It wouldn’t post so I gave up then I looked and there were 6 posts. I broke Tapatalk.

Got Dan to delete them, as he said unto me, he is a supermod after all.

Thanks for the tip on the return springs.

Seems like all the old flipper kits Leigh supplied me had failed.

The good old Stern springs I used on site are still going.

Unfortunately I could not attend but reading this thread over the last few days, I wish I could have. The sheer volume of work and time that was put into this huge event seems mind-blowing. Just a bloody credit to all involved, especially the host, Leigh and his family.
