2018 North Qld Tropical Winter Pinball Carnival 15/16 June

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

@AlexMc and myself will host another North Queensland Tropical Winter Pinball Carnival in Townsville in June 2018.

It was a great weekend for our first run last year, so are keen to go again in 2018. We plan on having 4 separate competitions. Flip Frenzy on Friday night starting around 6pm or so at Alex's place (in Townsville, near airport), as well as qualifying for the West End Wizards comp - finals for the West End Wizards will be held Sat night at Alex's place. Then a 4 or 5 round matchplay Townsville Open at my place (15 mins south of Townsville) from 9am Saturday, plus a quick side comp - likely a single ball of death (ie: plunge 1st 2 balls, and only use flippers for the last ball).

We will lock in Friday 15th from 6pm (although can qualify for West End Wizards from 4pm on Friday, through until late Saturday night. This worked well for people travelling last time. We will work out more details later on.

There will be around 12-15 machines at both venues, mix of SS and newer machines.

Note - the machines are in our private collections, and i have 4 young kids running around, so please respect the machines and our property. Rage tilts, loud swearing, shoving of machines or poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave.

The main purpose of this post, was to let people who might wish to travel take advantage of some Jetstar sales that are on now (until Thurs 28th Dec), with $59 flights from Brisbane, $69 from Sydney and $79 from Melbourne for that date. If you flew in by 4 or 5pm on Friday and leave anytime Sunday, that will give plenty of time for comps and socialising!

@acejas @Dicky @Replay @roland rat @timmychap @chopchop @Ryza @Cursed @ItsUrFeminitzNYImNietYoma @Manny65 feel free to tag others, these were just people i've talked to recently who may be interested.

In terms of logistics...

We would like people to start qualifying for the West End Wizards from lunchtime onwards on Friday - so if you arrive early, head to Alex's place (5 mins from airport) and play your 8 qualifying games and submit your scores.

The West End Warm Up Comp will start at 6:30 pm Friday night at Alex's place. Alex will have a BBQ set up, and there is an IGA 300m down the road, as well as a Thai takeaway place, so if you want to grab some tucker, or meat for BBQ, please do. We want to keep things on time, so won't be waiting around for those who wander off!!

Saturday morning at my place (Alligator Creek, 20 mins south of Townsville), will be a relatively early start. Comp will kick off at 8:45am and people are welcome from 8am onwards. I will supply morning tea and lunch - the kids will sell some soft drinks and water. If you want to BYO beers etc, i will make some room in the fridge or organise and esky.

We will prob finish up at my place sometime between 3 and 4:30, then head back into Alex's for the top 16 Finals of the West End Wizards (what people qualified for on Friday arvo) - there may be time for latecomers to complete their qualifying games Sat arvo.

Same as Friday night, Alex will have BBQ set up, or we can order pizzas or buy a few chooks or similar. Alex will also have fridge/esky for beers etc.

Single Ball of Death Side Comp - Sat 16th June (Rob’s Place)

Entry $5

This is just intended as a bit of a fun event, and will have a reasonable degree of luck involved. These games can be played between rounds, or if a machine is free during a round (you need to ensure there are no groups waiting to play it). Need to play in groups of at least 2, to record scores.

Qualifying:

Will be conducted on 3 machines: Likely to be Sinbad, Paragon and Rolling Stones.

You must plunge the first 2 balls, and NO FLIPPER hits are allowed before or during the ball is in play. Nudging is permitted. If a player accidently touches the flippers once during either of the first 2 balls, their score will be recorded as whatever the score is after draining that ball. If the flippers are touched more than once in the first two balls, they will have a score of 0 recorded for that game.

The 3rd ball can be played as normal

Scores will be recorded for each player with scores ranked highest to lowest. Highest score will get 100 points, with decreasing values from there using the scoring system where 1st position gets 100 points, 2nd 97, 3rd 95, 4th 94 and decreasing by 1 point from there.

The top 4 ranked scores will play a best of 3 finals (on the same 3 machines), under the same rules (ie: first 2 balls plunged, no flippers), 3rd ball played as per normal.

Scoring will be IFPA 7,5,3,1 for the finals component.

Just a bump as Jetstar have anothr sale on at the moment for that time of year, although the sale runs out tomorrow (Fri) night i believe.

$69 flights from Bris, $79 from Sydney and $89 from Melb.

At Alex's recent monthly comp, we had some great competition from locals, so be good to get a few more visitors in for a fun filled few days of pinball and socialising!

Also remember, most of the rest of Australia will be freezing its nuts off during winter, while we enjoy temperatures of 28 degrees!

OK all, we have about 8 confirmed from Brissy so far, other out of towners are more than welcome.

First post updated with 4 x competition details, which are being submitted for IFPA approval.

Some people expressed interest in shirts, Alex will be getting prices this coming week.

If others are thinking of attending, let us know as it would be good to get an indication of numbers - at this point we are prob running about 30-40 people. Remember, all of southern Australia will be freezing in the middle of winter, while we are kicking around in shorts and t-shirts. Great food, socialising, company and pinballs are guaranteed!

Hi All.

We are organising getting shirts made up for those interested. Cost is $25 per shirt and it can be a grey coloured polo or a blue chambray button up shirt.

The grey polo will be similar to that in the pictures however will have Winter Pinball Carnival 2018 at the base.

The blue chambray will only have the logo on the front pocket and nothing on the back.

If you are keen on a shirt please let us know what style and what size. We would need to know numbers by mid May.

For those still considering, likely machines are

Alex

JD GB ACDCLE STTNG FT DH TZ ToM Kiss Fireball Harlem Globetrotters Sinbad Bugs Bunny Teed Off Spy Hunter Black Pyrammid Meteor Far Out

Rob

Spiderman JM Sinbad Paragon Dialed In Medieval Madness Xmen le ACDC CFTBL Maverick Rolling Stones Locomotion Tommy Ngg whirlwind
