Pinball Grotto Tournament Schedule for 2018

Hello all and hope you all get a good break over the holidays.

Plans at the Grotto for next year on the Gold Coast are to hold:

Matchplay Competition every third Sunday of the month starting on January 21

Start time 10 am doors, comp at 11. Usually qualifying 4 rounds done by 4, finals by around 6:30.

3 Strike group elimination first Friday each month beginning February 2nd.

Start time 6pm doors, 7pm start. Usually finished around 11pm.
This is timed to coincide with the Saturday Flip Frenzy the next day at Netherworld for those coming from interstate.

Entry to each comp is $20 with cash prizes given back, and B grade final in the Matchplay.
      No limit on numbers
      IFPA approval sought

Total Nuclear Annihilation should be there in January I hope as well!

Thanks for everyones support and catch you in 2018

Just a change of May Date so as not to clash with Cooly Classic - it well be Sunday 27th May for the Matchplay event - start at 10 for doors as usual

IFPA approval granted for the competitions now. Should help Michi break the work record!

Sorry all, March Matchplay competition scheduled for the 18 will have to be skipped because I'm off to Texas for the Texas Pinball Festival. See you this Friday!

Quote from the IFPA listing ...
"Some will be straight up events, and some Critical Hits cards involved. Check website link for updates."

Can you give me more information please, so I'm not going in blind on May the Fourth.

      website link:

      https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthr...ay-May-the-4th!

This one will use the Critical Hits deck. If you haven't done it before - cards are given out at the start of the night. They can be used prior to each round to swap groups, games, order, make you invulnerable for the round and other fun stuff. They can be used at the end of each round to grant you or others extra balls, have someone else fight your group to regain your last life and other things.

More info on the cards can be found on

Holy crapola ... just reading through some of the "critical hit" cards (although I imagine not all will be available/used at the May the Fourth event?) ... and while I can see the attraction of this style of game play, I'm at a loss to understand how the IFPA decided that this is compatible with a rankings points earning event.

Yeah to me it seemed like more of a muck around format with friends. Stealing other players scores etc doesn't really work I think when it is an IFPA rated event.

It is a fun format to play in though, depending on what cards you are served up
