Bride of Pinbot (2.0)- Williams - 1991 - Repair & Service Log

Recommended Posts

After all the work I've done to the cabinet and playfield, there was one part that still stood out as needing attention. The apron. It's by no means terrible, as I've seen much (MUCH) worse. But it now stands out as being below standard when compared against everything else done to the game. So it's time to give the apron a face lift. There were two options in front of me to consider for the face lift. The first is a set of black decals to keep it looking original. The second option (which was more appealing) is to go with a fancy set of 2.0 apron decals from Retro Refurbs. These are printed on a chrome style material and give a cool looking rainbow shine effect when light reflects off the surface. The perfect look for a 2.0 machine with this theme!

The shine also reflects off the printed art too. The decal set came with some decals for the stand up targets and spinner. I'm only planning to install the apron decals at this point.

First step was to get the apron out of the game to be worked on. I'll need to remove the old art before installing the decals.

There are various scratches and marks around the paint. As I mentioned, it's not terrible - but now stands out against the rest of the machine.

The old art and warning sticker were removed from the apron. All surfaces were then cleaned and then primed.

I decided to go with a dark metallic purple paint for the apron. I decided against using the traditional gloss black as I felt the purple would compliment the powder coated trim I had done. I also felt the new colour would work well with the new decals. After 3 coats of purple, two coats of clear were applied on top.

The apron and shooter housing were left for a week before the decals were installed. The apron decal set is missing a decal for the shooter lane cover. I've contacted Pete at Retro Refurbs regarding this and it's sounding positive that they will be making up a batch and have them available soon. I'll certainly be getting one if they do.

Last step was to get the metal rail, rubber grommet and instruction cards installed again. I also printed up a fresh danger decal for the back face of the apron.

I made a short video too to show the rainbow effect across the chrome decal.

That's the last of my to do list on my 2.0 Bride now. I keep saying that, but there really is nothing else (outside of general maintenance) that needs to be done. I'm hoping to hear some positive news from Pete at Retro Refurbs in the coming weeks about a shooter lane decal being made available. I'm surprised it's not already part of the decal set, as it's incomplete with out one.

Helmet Help..

Jesder,

Nice rebuild on the BoP, looks great.

I am restoring my own machine and have almost finished the playfield replacement. I am having issues with mounting the helmet... the red flasher cover on the RHS interferes with one of the rubber posts on the mini playfield causing a big gap between the helmet and the rear post;

Not quite sure what the issue is ??!? The LHS seems ok.

I've measured the post heights etc. all seems the same from LH to RH side.

I'm wondering if you could snap a pic or two of your BoP helmet? or let me know if you had issues mounting yours?

Cheers!

Here's a photo (from page 1) of my post & rubber layout on the new mini playfield.

Make sure you have the posts in the correct holes around the middle section where the flasher cover sits. There are a few holes there and if you have the red mini post in the wrong one it will get in the way.

Another photo from page one showing the small black spacers that go with the flasher cover. From memory those push the flasher cover back into the helmet so it doesn't poke out too far. Make sure those are installed.

If your layout matches on the mini playfield and you have the spacers installed, i'll take some photos tonight for you to reference to see if anything stands out as being different.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Pretty sure I'm in the right holes;

I even compared with the old mini playfield to see if CPR made any adjustment to hole placement. Seems fine.

And definitely have the black spacers on the flasher covers to recess them;

I'm sure it's going to be something basic, but can't see the issue at the moment!

One thought - is the helmet you have a brand new one? If so, does the original one fit OK?

I have a new one from Starship Fantasy, but have not yet installed it. I'd assume they are the same, but there can be small differences that may be giving you some grief.

Another thought is to check the metal posts are in the right spot to lift the helmet away from the rubbers.

Jesder,

Thanks so much for the clear photos of the helmet from your machine. It showed me that mine was essentially fine and I'd made no obvious mistakes with assembly.

I even put the old mini-playfield and helmet back together to test it wasn't with any of the replacement parts (yes, it is a replacement, new stock, Helmet and CPR mini-playfield). Had the same clash. Weirdly, that was a bit of a relief.

It all came down to the 2 F's; Fitment and Finesse.

You may have noticed when you replaced your own mini-playfield that the screw holes under the red posts left a fair amount of wiggle room, I loosened the offending post and moved it as far away from the flasher cover as I could. I also adjusted the mini-playfield placement as much as I could on it's elongated mounting holes and bingo! Just enough room to screw down the helmet.

Super happy, thanks!

  • 1 month later...

I've been slowly knocking over a few things on my to do list recently and decided to turn my attention towards my BoP 2.0. Awhile back I purchased a new helmet from RTBB and it's been sitting in a box for months patiently waiting to be installed. The old helmet isn't terrible, but it is looking worn in some spots and has some cracks along the points where it attaches to the playfield.

The lamp boards were removed from the old helmet, along with the two flasher domes. While I have them out I will reflow fresh solder along the edges of the twist sockets as a few of them have been unreliable. I found one of the twist sockets was broken, so this was replaced.

The lamp boards were installed into the new helmet and it was screwed into position. Looking so much better now. Another item ticked off :)
