I have to do something whilst I wait for the metal trim/legs to return from powder coaters. Get that Batman cab completed and we'll decal it mate. I'm ready when you are!

@Glenn70 Great thread!! Very indepth with great explanations on each step and process. Making for a great read and very handy for anybody wanting to follow in your footsteps. Looks great as well. I agree the black decals are a vast improvement on the originals. Keep up the great work.👍

Thanks so much. Trying to make it easy to follow. Maybe too many posts of each step but if people can learn like I did and do their own restore one day, great. It's so much fun and rewarding.

After the cab is complete next week, I plan on stripping the playfield (not completely bare though) and given her a decent clean. Most likely replace a few items like coil sleeves, pop bumper bodies/skirts, rubbers, etc). I have not decided on whether to strip it, in the cab or lay it on the dining table and piss off the Mrs...............

Head box decals fitted tonight with reluctant help from the Mrs (I wish she liked pinball like some of the other wives do on here). Anyway, went on really well after a light sand of the painted surface with 800 grit. A big thanks to @Turbo27 who recommended the Posca paint pen for the sides after using the scalpel to trim up the decals. I used to use a black texta but the paint pen is way better.

Also centered the decal better than it appears on the original.......

Amazing work mate - I love seeing the progress and the results!

I'll be starting my X-Files redecal this week, so will be checking back here to get some tips as your updates and results are an excellent resource!

Thanks mate. It's funny as I've just been reading your Bop restore thread as rest of family sleeping. Best of luck with the X-Files decal job. I hope the cab is pretty good and not too much damage. Makes it easier when the cab is structurally fine. If you want a hand or any tips (sure you will be more than capable), let me know as you are not far from me anyway. Make sure you send me some pics if you don't start a thread on it.

The cabinet condition is nice, so it's a good starting position to be in There are some marks around where the legs attach, which I'll need to fill/sand before applying the new decals. Cabinet prep is the part I need to investigate more on first and I might send through a few questions for you

I do plan to post photos of the progress and results. I have a thread of my X-Files rebuild, where I've covered all my work to date on it. I'll just add the decal work to it - https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthr...mp-Service-Log

      powder coat 1.jpgpowder coat 2.jpgpowder coat 3.jpg

Just got back from the powder coater with the 11 items in this shitful Melb heat. My powder coater now uses Dulux and as such, the finish is not like the original dimpled or more coarse Data East finish. I am still very happy with the end result as it is definitely more consistent and has come up really well. I cannot wait to get it back together now but work comes first this arvo unfortunately.

Started to put the head box back together too. Must take advantage of the time when kids asleep (would however prefer to be doing something else but Mrs also sleeping). Laminated the small labels inside and installed a battery eliminator (NVRAM) - thanks to @newy16216.

@T2S88 you beat me to it.Cover the EPROM window labelled "C" as a precaution, that originally would have had a label on it but over time they can unstick and fall off. In the event that you happen to open that backbox and you have some UV lighting going on they can wipe the data clear. Insulation tape works well.
