70 years of modern pinball

Recommended Posts

The Australian Pinball museum just shared an article from 70 years ago when Gottlieb announced Humpty Dumpty, the first pinball with electromechanical flippers:https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1488636321172021&id=1090523887649935

On this day 70 years ago, Gottlieb announced the introduction of a new pinball concept that created the typical pinball of today.

Below is the official press release taken from the 25th of October 1947 edition of Billboard magazine.

Humpty Dumpty was the first pinball machine manufactured with flippers that were electromechanical.

Flippers did actually exist on a few games prior to Humpty Dumpty, but they were purely mechanical, because of this, Humpty Dumpty with its eletromechanical flippers is the first of the typical modern pinballs.

A week after this announcement Humpty Dumpty was advertised with images of the machine.
