      Karting by Rally (France) 1962

About nine years ago I won this on Ebay from Child Amusements. I was the only bidder,
      Side Right.JPG

I think it was advertised as a possible parts donor.
Gottlieb parts do fit this, one being the faulty Game coil, a genuine Gottlieg coil-name and number inscribed.

It came with four back legs, the front being a lot shorter.
There is another Rally machine possibly in Victoria. The owner contacted me shortly after I bought this one requesting leg measurements as his had none.
I sent him the spare set and made front legs from waterpipe hoping one day to find a donor 60s,70s, table for tapered legs.

It is in very good condition being fifty five years old.
Playfield looked repainted with the amateurish characters and handwritten cursive but looking on IDBP this seems to be normal on a few of their machines.

Machine is poorly balanced with the steppers in the backbox and the monstrous power transformer sitting at the back of the relay board.
It can be lifted from the front easily. My pinball trolley cannot be positioned far enough to the back to lift without tipping back.
      The unusual legs don't help.

I did clean, adjust, etc when I first got it but it was dead on power up.
Tracing the power from the beginning, I found one of the mains lines go through a fuse and then through the bump switches . The idea being no mains power at all when bumped.
I replaced the crumbling AC cable and made sure the neutral was switched through the machine. If I feel inclined later I will isolate the circuit with a relay.

The relay board where you can just see the power transformer at the back.

      Relay Board.JPG

The coin door with the bump switch on top of the replay button.
The coin door hinges down, slides out and can hinge down again, a little complicated..

      Coin Door.JPG

I then left it for nine years.

Pulling it out from the pile again, I retraced the AC mains again and found the relay board switch was stuck (seen centre of relay board).
Now had power but stuck on tilt. Check all relays on relay board again and found three contacts out of adjustment.
No tilt but not starting. Coin up worked ok, credit wheel racking up credits, found Game coil O/C. Now resetting and starting.
Still haven't found how to score the extra ball yet.
The extra ball feature slides the black metal plate across to block ball return and expose a kicker hole..

      Playfield Top.JPG

Under the playfield. You can't see it clearly here but the flipper contacts are at the top. They are operated by hinged wire form in the main cabinet. I forgot to take pic...

      Playfield Under.JPG

The backglass in excellent condition with a little verandah.

The tilt switch using a mercury switch.

      Tilt Switch.JPG

It uses a ball shunt to push the ball up to the playfield.

      Ball Launcher.JPG

The apron is in excellent condition.

      Apron.JPG

Forgive the photo quality, I am constantly surprised how poor they are when uploaded.

The PF glass has to be specially ordered. Standard glass is about 10mm too narrow. Maybe it's metric being French?.
EM score motors wanted: nonworking or working
Sega Sub Roc 3D periscope mech. needed except motors.
Wanted, Mitsubishi 60" RP (vs 6041) complete TV gun assembly. (R Proj TV/monitors and parts taken away).
Take Five pinball machine PCB wanted.

Adjust that Tilt plumb bob as it's touching the ring, that will be keeping the Tilt on. Nice shaped machine very retro looking.
Pinballs I own- Indiana Jones (C/dmd), Black-Rose (DMD), Pin*bot (SS), Cleopatra (SS), Target Alpha (EM), Space Mission (EM), Wild Life (EM).
Pinball's I've moved on- Magic Castle (SS), Lost World (SS), Elektra (SS).

It is in very good condition for its age..but I found some bodgyness.

The coil mech for the plate that covers the extra ball kicker has been replaced. The big coil at the top.
There are burn marks around the area. The bracket is homemade...
      VUK plate coil.jpg

and a switch in the middle of nowhere..

      Vuk switch.JPG

The switch needs to be open when the plate coil is operated.
It prevents the the VUK from continuously operating when triggered.
(found by playing around with it).
I can mount it on a bracket under the armature and operated by the pin to the plate..

there was a set of the 'tubular' legs they used on early 60's williams on ebay about 4 to 6 weeks ago that didn't sell (was watching them as i thought they would go for an insane price).

will try to find the finished auction.

edit: just searched and have come up empty. there has been a few sets appear over the last year, will let you know next time a set pops up
