Question

Hello Guys

Did a RGB OSD mod on this tv with a help of a fellow Australian bud MarkOZLAD. Now it´s running with a PC thru VGA cable, ,with CRT_Emudriver and Groovymame, Ati 5450 patched with 15khz already on boot ! and works like a charm!

Give a look : https://photos.app.goo.gl/ROlDzMpabIOwCrV42

Even adjust thru the service menu, still have 2 issues with it:

a) Have a squeezed image on the top of the screen, already did a cap kit on entired chassis but seems not resolved, did you guys know which area of the chassis i can check for another fault component ?

b) Another issue is like some "jail bars" on the left of the screen, it´s very little only with a solid color you can see it.

Any help will be very apreciated.

Thanks a lot

Marcos

Had the exact same issue with the first Philips that I modded: http://scarthunter.blogspot.co.nz/2015/01/RGBmodification.html

Check out the SF2 pic... you'll see what I mean.

Upping the value of the decoupling caps completely fixed the issue. TV is now running full time in a cab and has been for a couple years now. Looks awesome too!

Hello Buttersoft

Thanks for your reply, actualy we been changing some information on the groovymame forum on the past, thanks again with your interest in helping me !

In fact this specific tv has a poor geometry service menu, it has just:

Horizontal position, Vertical size, ant the most anoying function V-Slope adjust, you can clear see on the video bellow, this adjust is very confuse it keeps the top of the screen (compressed or squezzed) and on the moment you adjust it, it enlarges the screen to the botton, so it distorce the screen, keeping the top squezed and even adjust it right on the bottom the top remains smashed.

I toutgh that could be a fault cap, so i re-cap all the chassi, but on this particular problem (top squeeze) it doesnt help, so if you point me an area on the chassi that i could change some components, to try to minimize this problem will be great !

In fact it lacks a vertical position adjust, to try to compensate that fault, or maybe it´s another fault component at all.

Any ideas wich component could be replace to try to fix that?

Thanks a lot

Marcos

Hello Dazzle

My bud MarkOZLAD, helped me to locate those "decoupling caps" values on the schematics, they are 22n 50v now, should I try 47n or even 100n?

Thanks

Mine were 47n before modding. Bumping them up to 100n completely eliminated the issue. Try that.
