My 4 Player MAME Cab

Recommended Posts

So after many many many years (about 12 years) I finally got around to doing something with the cab. All that time the cab sat in MDF Primer white, which of course looked very ordinary. I built it a long time ago when I had plenty of spare time (pre kids) and it was based on a 4-player NBA Jam cabinet.

Modified to suit a 68cm crt I had and extra buttons across all players so I could play most games. Once it was primed I got too excited and put it all together to play, and that's how it remained.

Now as the cab is large to suit the big control panel but also very deep because of the fat back tv so I decided to swap it out for a flat panel LCD and cut 30cm off the back. That gave me the motivation to sand the primer and give the whole thing 2 coats of paint. Attached pics show just after painting,

wiring for control panel, panel all done and then operational. PC is a few years old with i5-2700, 4GB ram, Radeon HD4500 (or something like that) running latest mame64 and currently setting up GameEx for the front end. Audio is an Sony xplod amp powering 4 6x9" 3-way speakers which do a good job.

What I still need to do is install a light in the marquee area, get some graphics sorted for marquee and then something to hold it in place. And something similar for bezel around screen so it's sealed and can't see through to the back. What do people recommend for the marquee and bezel glass? Plexi, lexan or something like that? Where would I get it? Also something to hold them in place - thin aluminium angle?

Cheers

Nice.

Don't think there's any 4 player games requiring 6 buttons though.

Yeah I think you are right - to be honest I can't remember why I had that many buttons on there for those players. i do remember that the P1 and 2 layout has the neogeo style buttons for the bottom row, then was going to use the grouped 6 buttons as the primary group for all other games. However I've not got around to setting up the controller files so P1B1 is the bottom left button for all games for the time being. All I can think of is that I perhaps considered console emulators and put the extra buttons in for that.
