El Dorado City Of Gold

I actually have two, this one (in first post) i sprayed tripple thick onto the bare glass in the hope that when i placed the pieces of paint down i would be able to slide them around a bit on the tripple thick.

This was not the case, the tripple thick grabbed on good an was unable to move the paint pieces without braking the paint.

so after i did my best to put all the paint down i sprayed the back of the back glass and use cling wrap to hold it all down.

issue - the edges of the paint pieces slightly curled up say 1-2mm

while it is far from perfect, it is now a usable backglass.

now the other backglass had sticky tape on it from a previous owner trying to save the artwork, bad, but, in a way it kept most of the pieces for when it eventually came into my hands.

it took patience to slowly peel the sticky tape from the flaking paint, i got as much off as i could before resealing it with tripple thick and cling warp.

now, another usable backglass

Its been a while since i got back to this, its a Gottlieb Sys80,

I bought a new cpu as the old one had acid damage (yes i know you can buy kits to repair a board for acid damage, but i didnt do that for 2 reasons,

1. i rarely do any board work as i would tend to fark it up, 2 the kits are are designed for boards that sit 90 degrees different to in El Dorado, so the acid damage went a different direction)

I tended go around in circles alot with this, things would work one day then the next time it was turned on they would work or more stuff would not work

I even hinder my own progress -one night where after a few drinks with the bro inlaw, thought we'd give it a go at getting it working... not a good idea,.. wouldnt even turn on the folliwing day :redface

at one stage i had it working except for, controlled lamps (bonus lights), 1 pop bumper, no sounds, and the 10 bank drops not powerfull enough to reset. Then the next time something else would not be working,

like the a display or something.

So i gave up fiddle arsing around and bought a new Power supply and replaced one pop bumper board, so now all i got to do is work out why the drops dont seem to have enough

power to reset and find out why the sound is not working, well the sound kind of works when you flip or close the cabinet? lol

not too many pics to go on about, and a short video of the sound

Game is up and running (with switch issue)

the issue with the drops not having enough power to reset them all was only one solenoid was working.

replaced most of the boards and the F3 fuse (displays) would sometimes blow and had me scratching my head for a long time.

so thinking it was maybe a broken wire or something? Until i realised it would not blow with the back box door open, i started the game, then slowly closed the backbox, and got a flash (like from a camera)

in the backbox and blew the F3 again.

turned out to be the new Gulf Pinball power supply sitting on the original power supply brackets made the heat sink stick out a touch to much and it was earthing out on the metal in the back box

you can see where the heat sink was touching

Gulf power supply no longer on the old power supply brackets now it clears the metal in the backbox

think this was caused by the staples in the yellow earth strap touching the driver board, staples have been removed and earth strap tidied up
